Afternoon all,

Just wondering whether a first aid box has to be green in colour to comply with the law? Or has my place of work been fleeced out of a lot of money ;) Our existing first aid boxes were orange with a green cross and first aid written on them.

Cheers :D

It's probably true, although I think you should be allowed a shoe box with first aid drawn on in crayon if it's there to save lives and the relevant people know where it is.

Same with fire extinquishers - why are they all red now? :(

I dont know for sure but i would have just thought they have to a visable colour. If they do have to green I can think of quite a few places that are in trouble!

Ah wells, company just wasted some vaste quantity of money then because they believe every bit of dribble that comes out of the guys mouth. He's also a rally driver you know ;) Oooooh and another one, ex sas AND his subaru does 200mph plus.

Infact prize comment of last year was that he would take some of us out in his car but you can get whiplash from the brakes ;)

Not sure about first aid boxes, I don't think so anyway.

On the subject of fire exstinguishers, yes they all have to be red and its the coloured logo that identifies the type. Yes its another questionable bit of european legislation.

PK!

Questionable? It's downright dangerous, you have to peer at some tiny little tag to see what type it is now rather than being able to tell from a mile off.

All first aid boxes must have a white cross on a green background. Similarly, first aid rooms should be easily identifiable by white lettering or a white cross on a green background.

The above is taken from the government Health and safety site.

first aid boxes come in a multitude of colours, but all work the same way..

Walk over them, and they'll disappear, adding ~50% to your health.

Health and Safety Executive say....
First aid signs
What signs should I have?

Where should I put them?

The signs should be placed where they can be seen (not obstructed from view) and easily identified.

however, it's down to the employer to make sure that the types supplied are suitable for the area in which they are stored, ie, in an kitchen you shouldn't find a water extinguisher, either powder or co2, (electrical or fat/oil based fires)

The problem is sometimes two fire extinguishers of the same colour are required in the same area.
