i have a 1GB stick of ballistix 6400, do i have to get the same 6400 stick to be able to run dual channel and oc it etc?

You don't *have* to, but it's always advisable to buy the same.

A different brand may use different chips and may not be compatible with the Ballistix.

yeh i mean im still gona get ballistix but does it need to be 6400? if i get the 5300 wont the dual channel run at 5300 speeds, or am i just talkin bs

Well the PC5300 and the PC6400 Ballistix are the exact same stuff, so you should have no problems running them together in dual-channel at PC6400 speeds.
