random restart

Had this graphics card for like 6 months now and this problem has always existed

basically at random times the computer will just restart (like error, screen just dies and horizontal lines kinda thing).

The computer doesn't BSOD so can't check error dumps and nothing states error occurred.

On event viewer an error shows up as critical and just says "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

I've mostly noticed it (not sure if it's always during this) when playing games such as Diablo 3, WoW etc. Graphics card goes to about 70°+ and most times it occurs during that.

I've tried re-installing/updating drivers etc, any ideas?

Oh I thought all that info was in my sig fro mages ago, guess not :P

"|| Intel i5 2500k || Sapphire HD 6950 FleX 2GB || Corsair 650W || ASUS Sabertooth P67 R3 1155 || 8GB G-Skill DDR3 1600Mhz || OCZ Agility 3 120GB SSD || Barracuda 1TB 6GB/s || 3x BenQ G2222HDL ||"

edit; also everything is at stock.

Just got it again, only things that were open were chrome, msn, skype...

I've got the exact same opened now as temp is just under 60, GPU clock 450Mhz (set to 800Mhz when it's actually being used) and 1250Mhz memory clock.

Any ideas what could be causing this? rather annoying as the shut downs are completely random.

Are times it's happened (not that its any use) so basically every few days i'm getting it and it's completely random.

Still causing problems

only done it a few times since I've posted this though, also is 60-80 degrees a bit much for the graphics card or about right? :p

3 minutes after I posted the above it happened again, then again at 22:11 then again 5 minutes ago

It went from doing it once every few days to doing it 6 times in 24 hours?

that's what i've been thinking

the case is behind my monitor (side/window fan points to monitor with about 10cm space between them), above the case there is a shelf (7 or 8 cm) but theres plenty of space behind the case

^ as far as fans are concerned, within the case the air flow is fine and won't/shouldn't be an issue.

Atm doing what I usually do the gpu is at 62° so that shouldn't be an issue (it'll be same when it's crashing), fans inside case running at 80% according to fan controller and 36° avg temp.

Computer doesn't turn off (not completely) it just does the lines across screen

images
is sort of what it looks like but over full screen

after that happens it instantly restarts and boots back up.

It's not even that hot within my room so I doubt the temperatures are too hot (if so then surely cpu should be above 45, gpu above 62)

@Matt, due to fault with PSU or unable to handle the components?

if it continues today i'll take out graphics card, reseat it (yet again!!!) and try removing all power cables etc and re-doing 'em.

Tried reseating again can't get it any better card is pushed right against the mobo plastic and sata ports.

Would this be likely to cause the random crashes?

Changed the PSU this morning and it just restarted again (both 650w) so can assume it's not a dodgy PSU.

CPU VCORE is at 0.93-0.96 isn't that a bit low? (nvm ofc it will as it's idle and multiplier is dropped)

or any other ideas?

Ok turned off the auto-restart on the BSOD and apparently this is whats happening
IMAG0033.jpg

IMAG0036.jpg

and for some reason aren't able to save the crash dump...

Any ideas? going to look up on the bsods atm.

ever since turning off the auto-restart i've BSOD'd 3 times in the space of 10 minutes...

Tried reinstalling drivers again (currently using ccc 11.9 as no later version works) and just like the 12.4 update, 12.6 BSOD's soon as windows loads saying;

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA

*** STOP: 0x00000050

*** atikmdag.sys

and fails to save the dump.

So i've had to system restore back to 11.9 again

Any idea why the BSOD occurs (it occurs everytime windows loads, so I can't log in as it's had a BSOD before user screen shows) when I'm trying to use up to date drivers?
