Random Restarts

I've been having this issue for a while now, and its starting to be a right pain. My pc will just randomly restart/cut out sometimes when im gaming. I've done all the normal diagnostics I can think of, checking events logs for any errors, logging temperatures of gpu, cpu etc and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary. Im starting to think i might have a duff PSU. As it appears like the mobo just loses all power, theres no attempt to 'shutdown' which i think would happen.

Anywho.. heres what my kit is..
  • Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor
  • Asus RAMPAGE V EXTREME/U3 EATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard
  • Corsair Vengeance LPX 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-3300 Memory
  • EVGA GeForce GTX 980 Ti 6GB Superclocked+ ACX 2.0+ Video Card
  • Corsair CP-9020056-UK RM Series RM850 80 Plus Gold 850W ATX/EPS Fully Modular Power Supply Unit
If anyone can give me some pointers, i would be hugely grateful.

Could well be the PSU - but could equally be something else emulating a similar problem.

What were your CPU/GPU temps under load?

What cooler have you got strapped to the CPU?

A few things you could try to help resolve or get closer to identifying the problem. The ideal would be a trying a different PSU or GPU.
  • If any of your system is clocked remove them.
  • Double check all your connections and hardware is seated properly - ideally remove and reseat all of them - including SATA leads etc..
  • Check the kettle lead is securely fitted into the back of the PSU
  • If using an extension lead try plugging PC directly into the wall socket - or a different extension lead.
  • Update BIOS
  • Clear the CMOS and load optimised defaults and set the BIOS settings back to what your HW needs (again leaving off any clocks).
  • Try with just 2 sticks installed (after a few runs of memtest)
  • Check motherboard is securely fitted - no movement.
  • Try a stress test on GPU and CPU independent to each other - and see if you get a similar error with either.
  • If they pass try running a blended stress test such as Unigine Valley Benchmark - see if that emulates the same problem when gaimg.
  • Make sure all drivers are upto date

Best of luck.

Have you run mem test on your ram ?

I have done a memtest, all OK. ive also change the ram for good measure.

these are some good points, ill go through these and let you know my findings. I have a corsair corsair h100 cpu cooler, which i have recently cleaned the fans and radiator out to ensure theres no heat build up. my gpu is stock cooled.
