Random stats of the day: Best drive cost per GB

Just been thinking what stonking value HDD's are now. I mean, for £26 quid (cheapest availalable) you can buy an 80GB disk. An extra te £12 gets you 170GB more at 250GB. There was a time (not that long ago either) when even 1GB of disk was thought excessive. Anyway for a bit of fun I knocked up the price per GB and TB (VAT inc.) of OCuk drives as at present. The list is ordered by cost per gigabyte, with cheapest at the top. It is as follows:

Insightful to see where the price/capacity sweet point currently falls, which is around 320GB-500GB. Ultimately, considering its size and other desireable qualities (speed, perpendicular recording, low noise etc.), probably the best all round deal at the moment would have to be the number 4 drive on the list, the Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

Theres a mistake in the list, the best deal is clearly:

@ 13.15p / gig.

(The mistake being you've put it down as a 400 gig hard drive when its a 500 gig hard drive and done the math as so.)

Its slightly a moot point though as the drive is only £65.79 as its in T.W.O at the moment

. When its not in T.W.O its closer to 13.5p / gig
