Random Thought...

Because pretty much everyone who listens to an MP3 player on a train, subjects the rest of the people to the awful tinny beats. Laptops, I may permit but the taptapping on most of them is pretty loud.

I agree with the MP3 players but the tapping of keyboards? It's quieter than people talking... Unless you want to ban that as well? :p

Or use a really really long Ethernet cable to travel with the train.

Definitely this. Just need two long cables coming out the back of the train, a couple of people run along behind the train and at every stop they plug one cable in at this station and then unplug the old one from the station before.

In a silent carriage? You're darn tooting I'd want to ban them talking. :p

I'd have to say that the lack of internet connectivity on the Tube isn't something that bothers me greatly, partly because I try to avoid the Tube wherever possible but also because it's not a big issue to be without internet access for half an hour or whatever. Occasionally it would be handy to have phone signal down there when arranging to meet people but again it's not a big problem.

Another point is, the access they are providing is on stations only - not in tunnels. Only major stations too, so how long do you actually spend in Kings Cross, Victoria, Oxo or whatever? I think most people want to get through these places as quickly as possible, not pause to check their emails or whatever.
