Random trip to Iceland

I can imagine it's a great place to photograph, particularly when the sun's up, some of the colours of the houses lend themselves to photos.

Have you done any postproduction on these? Some of them seem like they need a bit of straightening and DSC00018 I quite like but feel if perhaps cropped in tighter to get the guy leaning against the railing and the wall painting only but with less of the street clutter?

And I like the tunnel. Looked at it the first time for a few seconds and all of a sudden I realised how big the place was, it's very deceptive!

One last point, if you click on share and then grab HTML/BBCode, if you cut and paste the text into your post, the picture appears rather than a link.

But some far better photographers on here than me and I always struggle to make the most of compositionally good photos in post production. There is something slightly, I don't know, Lego about the house in Iceland and to an extent Scandinavia.

Ahh brilliant advice on the previews.. thankyou. So I cropped the pic and straightened it up , I think this is what you meant?. So much stuff to think about not only when taking pictures but also in post processing. I used lightroom 4 to mess around with the shadows and highlights etc but again I am completely new to it all. I think this will be a big learning curve for me.

For PP me too, I tend to slide a bit of this push a bit of that with no real idea of what I'm doing until I get sort of what I want but I think sometimes I go too far! Or get an effect with ten sliders I could get with one if I knew what I was doing!

I think I'm far better (compositionally) than I am in using LR/Aperture etc.

my main criticism is cropping.. i would ..(notice i say "i would" as in most things in photography mostly their is not a right or a wrong way but what pleases you)
i often like to isolate my main subject from the back ground or clutter
I re edited the 4X4 in LR4

Personally, I think there a lot of interesting features in most of thing pictures but crowded out a bit by some of the clutter. I like what you did with the jeep.

yes I think the OP has probably got a good eye for a photo ..which will need development ,which will come with time..... a good eye is worth more than £20k worth of kit
yes the jeep, apart from the crop i used the brush tool to darken and soften the background a little then used the brush tool again on the jeep to give a bit more sharpening contrast etc.. bit of a rush job as this mouse is to jumpy to edit photos
