randomly getting reboot and select proper boot device

What keeps popping up?

If I've read you correctly its probably a windows error so run a recovery with the windows disk and you should be good to go.

Reboot and select proper boot device
Insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key.

You mean my windows 7 disk?

I loaded up and went to repair my computer it comes up with system restore.

If I do that will I lose recent files?

Thanks for the help

You shouldn't lose anything(had to double check then).

Had you installed any new programs or downloaded anything the last time it worked normally?

I will advise for future backup everything like documents to Dropbox.

Edit: I'm not 100% sure but have you checked the boot order in BIOS? The battery might have failed and it's not a particularly smart motherboard. Make sure the hard drive is first in boot order.

I never had any windows updates or anything.
I just downloaded some ps4 videos I had recorded and uploaded to my video.

After I clicked repair then restore it said it worked fine then restarted. After restarting I still get the

'Reboot and select proper boot device' error

I pressed del and headed into bios

How do I check if the battery has failed.

My top options are

M.I.T, System, Bios features

Peripherals, Power management, Save

In bios features

Boot option priorities

Boot option 1 - atapi ihas124 e
Boot option 2 - st200DM001-1ch164

I've switched this to see of it works but it doesn't.

Below is

Cd/dvd rom drivers bbs priorities
Hars drive dds priorities

Bootup numlock state
Security option
Full screen logo

Os type (I think screen is cut off)
Boot mode selection
Lan pxe boot option rom
Storage boot option control
Other pci device rom priority
Network stark

Ok so you only have two hard drives?

I don't think its the battery if you've swapped drives and it still doesn't work. I need to do some searching as I'm unsure what else could cause this issue.

I'm just wondering if the main drive has decided to die unexpectedly. I wouldn't expect bios to see it if it were dead but weirder things have happened.

you could also double check the hard drive cables make sure they're attached properly.

Could try clearing the CMOS but I don't expect that to do anything if switching boot order in bios didn't fix it.

Lastly do you have access to another computer to make a bootable usb or dvd from?

if it has died what would the fix be or would I have to send it in for repairs?

I could open my computer side up but what would I be look for?

Just any cables that have been undone?

Unfortunately I don't have access to another computer :(

If it has died then unfortunately any data on it that wasn't backed up is probably gone for good. There are programs that can be tried otherwise it can be expensive to have it done professionally. To fix it would be to buy a new hard drive and start from scratch.

If you haven't moved your computer or played around inside it suggests that's it's not going to be a cable issue sorry. Probably best to leave the side on.

Ok bit difficult to diagnose without another computer.

Can I just double check you swapped boot option 1 and 2 around so the "st" drive was number 1? You then saved and exited BIOS?

The "atapi" thing is your DVD drive.

Ok leave the "st" as option 1 and then select "hard drive dds priorities" (I assume that was a typo and actually says 'bbs'?). What does it say in there?

What hardware is in this system do you know?

That's a whole other way of using a computer. That shouldn't be relevant here.

Was that what happened when you selected the "harddrive bbs priorities'?
