Been lucky enough to see it twice this month. :)

I think the NX611 can only taxi and is near the battle of britan memorial flight, which one of the 2 only flying lancs is

NX611 can potentially be returned to flight. She will need the main spar replacement that PA474 had several years ago and that will cost a huge amount of money. The Panton brothers always had the intention of getting her flying again - but it's a lot of work involved.

The other problem is their runway had a large chunk removed by some local developments. Not sure if it's long enough now.

yeah the engines would set them backa couple of mill each, plus it has to be taken back to the airframe and rewired.

my formar ATC sqn invited me to go to RAF Connisgbe ( damm spelling) to the BOBMF than on to were one of the grounded birds was ( for now :P) not sure if they are restroing it yet through

Vulcan - 1 - XH558
Lancasters - 2 - FM213 in Canada and PA474 in the UK (and potentially KB976 in the US and NX611 in the UK can be returned to flight)

NX611 is being restored for flight apparently. :)

This Lancaster currently does not have a flight safety certificate, but undertakes regular taxi runs at high speed along a length of the wartime runway. A 2008 newspaper report indicated the 12-14 month project to return the aircraft to airworthiness was being investigated[16] and, on 18 February 2010, it was announced that NX611 will be restored to flight. Although no date has been set, the museum has acquired two additional, airworthy Merlin engines and is currently acquiring other spares needed.

it is or is going to be, the way the owner of the place said it, it defo will be flying if its the last thing he does. all its doing atm is running up and down the feild I hate that, I think these should be in the air were they belong

At least it keeps them alive. Better than rotting in a field somewhere or just gathering dust in a museum.

Would be great to see PA474 and NX611 flying in formation one day.

Add '558 to that as well and I would be a very happy person. :D

No it flew there this year. Are you thinking of Bruntingthorpe?

Ummm... Bruntingthorpe is where XH558 was rebuilt - sadly not based there anymore.

XM607 is at Waddington. This is the aircraft that did the first Black Buck attack on the Falkland Islands.

I love to see old aircraft fly partucaly if its got a merlin engine in it....they sound fantasic :P

when you hear a super car like a enzo you think that sounds nice, than you hear a spitfire or a lanc and go thats the best sound in the world I dunno why, maybe becasue of thier engine noise, power and nobile sounding...jets sound all the same :(

same with the concord really had that buzz across my head when I was younger :p that was a lovely sight ... jets are nice, but they sound like any other, probley just think its the RAF showing off again rather than a cold war hero

Overflew our office last week and tried to shake the place into the ground! Didn't see it, but I sure as hell heard it! :D

Did see it last year though...

Hope it makes it to Airbourne next month (currently provisional), and hope I actually see it. :)
