This is an irrational rant. Thanks for listening.

Why is everything so ridiculously over the top? Is it not the most annoying thing ever? I had to sort out some pretty important online banking this morning with my second account I signed up with for better international travel exchange rates. I entered my 'passcode' wrong 3 times because I'd confused it with another account.

So what happens when you do this? You need to call and get it unlocked? Nope. You have to wait 10 minutes? Nope.

Your entire internet banking registration is DELETED from the system and you have to sign up AGAIN and wait 5 WORKING DAYS for a new passcode to be sent to you in the POST.

ARGHGHGHGHGHGH WHY!?!

This is bs, i had a problem with my cards only two weeks ago and i went into my local branch, i have a family member who worked in there so it was sorted asap.
IE they can if they want to.

People complain just as much when the security "isn't good enough". If your money had been taken you'd be blaming the bank as well. I'd rather have "over-the-top" security than security that doesn't work, personally.

they can if they want to.

Completely different situation, completely different bank, completely different security system, completely different policies. Anyway, knowing someone personally is a completely valid way of identifying them.

That's slightly overkill for something that is quite easy to do, I've done it myself when I kept spelling the answer to one of my security qiestions wrong. Quick phone call to my bank and 5 minutes later it was sorted.

I've just had a great idea to mess with people who have legitimately signed up for internet banking....

While security is obviously required and it should be as foolproof as possible that is a system that seems to be just begging for abuse if you've got a grudge against someone and happen to know their card number. By all means flag up that there have been multiple failed attempts but to completely delete the online banking part seems over the top and could result in fairly significant inconvenience for the legitimate customer who either makes the mistake you have or who happens to be subject to someone attempting to hack their account.

What's over the top are those little machines that you need to buy stuff online with.

The day my bank bring those into effect is the day I go to a different bank. I can't be carrying a battery powered device with me all the time for whenever I need to buy something off the internet - I don't have a manbag. : /

I hate the "Halifax secure" thing. You basically have to enter an extra password every time you buy something online, but the password NEVER works, even if you know it's correct. So, to fix it, all you have to supply is your name and date of birth, and you can reset it. Surely, if someone has got hold of your card details, they know your name and DOB as well? And to top it all off, when you reset the password, to the same one you THOUGHT it was, it says "this password is currently in use". But I just entered it and you said it was wrong! FFFFFFUUUUUUU

What a load of BS.

Completely against ANY banks policy, "IF you know them".

Works fine for me.

Wow!! I'm with RBS and banking online is so easy, if i forget/mis up my passcodes, a number of times, it locks until I re register online which again, takes 2 mins

ags

Can't fault Natwest's online banking, it just locks up after a few tries and you have to go through it to reset.

I've always thought that whatever security measures are implemented, those who want to overcome them find a way easily; where there's a will there's a way.

Then such measures are generally useless against those they are designed against and just hamper innocent regular people.

However it's best that at least something is being seen done.

Hopefully it'll teach you to remember your passwords :D
Sometimes they don't even work, I had a problem with one of my banking sites and this is strange...

I would try to put my codes into the website and it would say I've got them wrong repeatedly...

So I would ring up the automated banking telephone line and input my numbers there, same numbers and passwords... It would work fine and tell me my balance.

Then if i went back to the internet banking it would work fine... !!!???
