Rapidshare

So what if they do? Rapidshare don't check, ISP's don't check the account, no one cares or checks.

1. Person is found by authorities to have been distributing illegal files.
2. Authories find that user had a rapidshare account.
3. Rapidshare account is investigated and illegal files are found.
4. All ip's and accounts found to have downloaded the said files are investigated.
5. Innocent account holder is arrested due to someone else using the account to download said files.

In fact content is quite often reported to rapidshare.

Exactly.

I have to say (not rapidshare related) but I've seen loads of even forums doing these verifications just to get a search. It's very annoying as I find it difficult especially I can't tell if it's an I or J or T sometimes really annoys me.

People who upload / download illegal content, using their real IP address, deserve everything they get.

If your using an account it doesn't matter ip address you are using. The account holder will still be arrested.

you dont download music/movies?? people still pay for media?

Rapidshare hosts many things worse than copyrighted material....

Content is reported and removed yet no accounts are closed and no one is warned or reported because of it, no one has got arrested for downloading a file on rapidshare after the account being examined as far as I know. All IP's are logged and the amount of data from each IP so they won't catch an innocent either, and you pay with paypal so rapidshare can't exactly identify you.

You're all talking about things that don't happen as if they do. ISP's don't just randomly ask Rapidshare for records and they sure as hell don't just say "klol"

Do a search on ocuk for rapidshare and you will find that accounts are closed for downloading illegal content. Paypal are required to give the users account details to the authorities, so it doesn't matter whether rapidshare can identify them or not. If someone using an account downloads using a proxy, guess who the police are going to come after? You guessed it, the account holder, they are responsible for their account and will be investigated whether their ip address has been detected or not, just like in past investigations such as operation ore. Rapidshare won't normally report their users because they will lose money, but if someone reports something directly to the authorities then it's a completley different story.

Explain to me how someone could report you for downloading illegal files and also know your rapidshare username. I've never heard of accounts being closed for downloading illegal files so I'd like to see where that has been the case please.

i don't think can give any personal details to anyone if you download something, since this is only a civil matter, the police certainly wouldn't be able to get involved (assuming downloading is a civil matter). Uploading on the other hand is a criminal matter i think, although it might only be when money is involved, and then the police might get involved.

I never said they could, users will report the files which can then be checked to see who downloaded and uploaded them.

The other person using the account may not simply be downloading copyright material though, I don't think anyone would be concerned about that, it's downloading the things that could land you years in prison that are of concern.

lol, yeah, I like to use fake IP when i can! WTF!???

LOL, indeed. Educate yourself ----> http://www.google.com/advanced_search

It would be pretty pointless for an account holder to use a proxy. :p

An account holder could conceivably use a fraudulently obtained prepaid card to fund her Paypal account, but that would be straying into serious offence territory.

Why would she take that risk when she could use multiple fake IPs and bypass the download restrictions, for free?
