Just found an email in my junk mail box, after wondering why my RS account apparently doesnt work, saying that ive made a TOS violation by downloading illegal content, so theyve terminated my account.

This happened to anyone else?
kinda worried im gonna be getting a letter from some company asking for lots of money :rolleyes:

Sorry if i am breaking rules with this thread.
 
I guess they're trying to clamp down on all the illegal files that are shared through RS. Don't worry about it, I doubt anybody will come knocking on your door.
 
a few friends are saying they wont follow it up or anything, my account has been canceled so i should be fine technically. hope so :(

What kind of protection do i have? surely they cant just send my info to other companies, data protection act?

I think they can if they have evidence of you downloading illegal content, however I don't think they would bother unless they are asked for it.
 
Have you tried logging back into your account to see if they have really cancelled it or if the email is fake?
 
As mentioned you sure that e-mail is for real?

I can't imagine them clamping down -I'd wager that 90% of premium users have paid for it *just* to download copyright content :p
 
yeh ive checked my account, its real. BOOOOOOOOOO

ive emailed them back asking what it was i apparently downloaded. then ill be able to start saving my pennies haha

surely rapidshare cant just give info to companies otherwise why would thousands of people use their service?

Because like you, they don't expect to get caught.
 
Claim you were sent the links but were told it was something else? I doubt RS will do anything except cancel your account. Afterall, look what happened to tv-links. they got shut down just for linking to other sites hosting illegal content, RS is actually hosting it :P
