Raptor 150gb raid?

For the price of a Raptor you could get 2 new drives to set up in RAID 0, and use the Raptor for something else, but.....

I see you have the X, the windowed ones, I have those and personally I think they're kind of worth the extra just to see the arms whizzing across the platters, RAID 0 is ace for that 'cos they're synchronised.

It's really subjective, the Raptor range won't give you higher transfer rates, what it does give is very fast seek times.

The Seagate 7200.10 run these drives close in terms of performance, but personally, i'd never go back to another drive.

See my WD 250GB hdd makes no sound... silent as anything. But my 74gb Raptor is loud.

Are the 150s quieter?

Well, the loudest bits of my PC are the fans so I guess it's subjective, I can't hear them spinning but I can hear them accessing data, it's not intrusive though.

How loud are these babies?

Were they worth it in your opinion over normal higher capacity sata drives?

Thanks

I had a Samsung Spinpoint on my last rig. This time I went for speed. The Raptor is certainly louder when accessing the disk, I could never hear the old Samsung at all. Although the Raptor does make a noise, it's acceptable IMHO & it's only during read/write.
