my seagate 7200.8 250gig drive today developed a bad sector and gave wierd problems such as bsods, boot problems etc.
so i got to rma the drive directly with seagate so assuming thats gonna take some time. i was thinking of getting a new drive to replace it.

the raptor 150gig drive i orderd should be with me tomorrow. anyone know if this drive is like for reliability wise? other forums say its probably my best option to go for without shelling out for a scsi drive and controller.

got the raptor 150 gig for £130 inc vat and free WD secure connect cable and 5 year warranty so its not that bad on price.

If it's the Raptor without the window then it'll be as reliable as any other desktop HDD - that is it could last 5 years or 5 weeks, it's just the luck of the draw.

SCSI really only overtakes SATA/IDE relaiblity when you start getting into the realms of 24/7 operation (actual work not just idling overnight).

yea its standard raptor i orderd not the X model which is see through, that just looks dodgey.

will do partitionage when i get it. how does 20gig c drive sound and the rest as a d: drive?

my old seagate was partitoned as 20gig c: and the rest as D. wonder how much faster i can expect this drive to be

Or 136 years!

Just out of curiosity I worked out that as these drives have a MTBF of 1.2million hours that works out at around 136 years. Good enough for me.
