Just formulating a new build and I'm canvasing for opinions:-

Do I go for a straight 150 Raptor for the OS ie C drive and then put a 500Gb in for data drive?

Or alternatively just go for RAID 0 with largish SATA drives?

Has anyone compared the performance of a Raptor loading OS versus SATA RAID 0?

There are quite a few threads further down the forum (might be a week back or so) which compare HDTach benchmark traces of various drives:

Mainly Raptor RAID0

Good mix of drives in this one

The bottom line is that a pair of Seagate 7200.10s in RAID0 will give you a better average transfer rate than anything bar a pair of 150Gb Raptors or a serious SCSI setup. The Seagates are about a quarter of the price per Gb of Raptors.

If you do go RAID0 you need to have a decent backup strategy though.
