Hi

One of my 74gb raptors started to produce reallocated sector counts (bad sectors). And i now have proceeded to RMA that disk. BUT From what i have learned today is the returns proceedure aint that good for uk owners of all WD hard drives, unfortunately returns arent handled in the uk! they are handled in germany. So now i have to post the drive off to germany (probably gonna cost an arm and a leg to post)

At least its sorted now, Ah well :(

If the person who buys it does a health scan and finds the damage then they will just return it to the seller anyway and get a full refund, you cannot sell faulty products without telling the buyer that there is something wrong with them.
With some RMAs the company will pay for all postage and packaging, when I sent my router to the Netherlands Linksys paid for UPS delivery so no problem there.

It isn't that expensive to send one single drive to Germany. I've only done it once but it cost me about £5. :)

now that i checked royal mail website im tending to agree with you, might not be so bad after all :)

Just RMA'd a drive to WD myself in Germany. They reccomend you send it by trackable mail and insure for $200 (£120-ish). After packaging my Raptor and sending it by 48hour European recorded delivery (Royal Mail), it cost a grand total of £27.00 to send.

i've sent stuff to Europe by Airsure from the Royal Mail and the cost was not much more than equivalent Special Delivery in the UK. It's basically £4 over the air mail cost. Not sure what service Digital Prozac used, but that price seems like a lot for Royal Mail.

Well Its not heavy so i guess 27quid is a bit steep BUT i would accept that cost as i live in northern ireland (£18-£21 for any large item from ocuk)

Weight was 600g + packaging via Euro48 + Insurance = £27 (Parcel Farce) Aparently the insurance bit was the price hike as PC components are treated differently under the PO's insurance policy for loss or damage and as they only do up to £100, I had to pay extra to cover it for up to £200 (+ the 48 hour advantage)

Had a nasty experience sending a PC to Holland once where it arrived damaged and couldn't claim on the insurance because it was outside of their "Normal Cover" £27 may seem steep, but it was for piece of mind tbh

Jeez.... I sent a Sony NWA1000, some CD's, DVD's and perfume to a sister in France for Christmas (much heavier than a HDU) and that lot (1.6kg IIRC) cost only £15 I think by RM Air Mail Signed for. That was insured also. £27 is very steep.

LOL

What’s the point in insuring it? The buggers faulty anyway!! lol
All you need is evidence/proof that they actually received it which can be obtained very cheaply with just a recorded delivery!!

I sent a Hd too Germany a few weeks back and it only cost £6 recorded

In case it gets lost on its long way to Germany, in which case you are out of pocket...

It does - I send stuff (for my parent's pretty much all the time) and stuff has gone missing - they ONLY use recorded/special as it is business stuff. You especially can't trust it if it goes abroad...
