What sort of improvements would I see if I replaced my current western digital 7200rpm HDD with a 150gb raptor?

How much faster would xp professional load if I shoved that on there and how much faster would other programs such as games (mainly battlefield 2142 (please don't kill me BF2 fanboys :P )) and is it any noisier than a standard HDD?

Cheers

the difference is definatly noticable

i went from a 8mb cache 7200 wd to a 74gb 10000 raptor, so blown away, so i bought a 2nd raptor,and i've run them in raid0 since

best computer purchase i've ever made

Ive got the 150Gb Raptor, and play 2142, im usually first into the maps, its great for gaming, as im usually waiting for people to appear in game. They can be quite noisy, but I just ignore it with my headset on. I like it, and it made quite a noticeable difference.

Yes they are definately louder than most drives but a lot depends on your case.

I ended up putting in some acoustic padding and no it didnt make ANYdifference to the inside temps. :D

Picked up a 150GB Raptor the other week and its lovely and fast. I quite like the noise that it makes, at least you know its doing something.

you like the noises it makes? talk about stretching to find a silver lining

I like the noise my raptor makes as well....

I hate it went i can't hear a harddrive going in a PC case.Makes me forever looking at the HDD led to check the system not crashed or locked up...

Not sure if you guys can hear it (I may have sensitive ears) but the raptors produce a high pitched whine that sort of pulsates a little but is mostly on all the time.

I wouldnt mind the raptors' noise if it didnt have this high pitched whine!

I have one of the older 36gig 8mb cache versions though, maybe thats why?

another thumbs up from me, little bit noiser than a regular drive but worth it..

Blazes through loading maps, like CS source, i am usually on there up to 10-20 seconds quicker than everyone else.. or at least just before :p

Used to use a 36.7gB Raptor, then changed to a RAID0 setup with 2x 7200rpm drives and I reckon the RAID setup is faster - and cheaper (first on cs servers most of the time). Maybe it's just cus my Raptor was so old though (using it as a dedicated page file drive now :p)

I'm ALWAYS the 1st person spawning on the battlefield. In fact, I will have driven a tank nearly half accross Karkand when the 2nd person spawns!!

;-) Cost me 250 quid though, 2x 74Gb Raptors 16Mb Cache in RAID 0

those are the fastest drives

they're a bit quicker than the 150gb drives :)

if anyone is running vista 64bit ultimate how long does it take to load up? im using 2 seagate 7200.10 drives and it takes about 12 seconds from the end of post to being at the desktop ready to go. I know other components like memory affect it but im sure most people with a raptor drive or seagate 7200.10 will have similar spec in memory etc

12 seconds from post???!!!

Wow thats pretty quick! My setup takes longer than that (i think).
Cant really think how my hardware could be realistically faster than it already is.
