Would there be any difference in the noise between a 36GB vs 74GB Raptor? Just that I've seen more people moaning about noise with the 74GB, but maybe that's just because more people own the 74GB version. Can't see any reason why noise level would be higher than the 36GB, but it got me wondering...

Would a 36GB be enough for a pure OS and Programmes drive do you think? The 72GB seems like it would be overkill to me. I've plenty of other storage for files etc. I just mean for the OS and other apps.

Well, that's a bit hard to say really. For me, I need way more than 36gb for programs. I have hundreds installed :p

32GB will be plenty for Windows.

1.6GB for \Windows
1GB-2GB for paging file
1-3GB for program files.

I very much doubt you'll have 32GB of pure Windows and Program files. My HTPC install (Windows, root files, program files) is 4.5GB, that's with XP Lite pruned down some of Windows features I don't use. Don't have any CD writing or Photoshop/office apps though.

Somewhat related question - do you use a Sata-2 cable with a Raptor or just a normal Sata cable. I see it's listed as a 'Sata' drive, not Sata-2, so does that mean a Sata-2 cable wouldn't work?
