Thinking about buying my first raptor, the 150GB version, are they very noisy compared to a normal drive? Is it worth me buying something like a Zalman enclosure to quieten it down?

Thanks

Mines is loudest part of PC spinning and even more if it seeks, but thats in a Windowed Case, so not as good sound proofing, added to fact the HDD has a window.

Lol, try side of case, which is about same as my Window esp with a 120mm hole in it for fan, and I aint talking only when seeking.

Not bad, sounds like a fan whirling

I've a pair of them in RAID0 and yes they can get quite noisey.

But complaining about it is like buying a Ferrari and complaining that it's louder than your old Ford Fiesta.

Who knows.

My raptor is fine while not seeking. Its quiet and cannot hear it spinning. The seek however sounds as though its crunching. Saying that, i wouldnt swop it. I may get another.

So has anyone used the Zalman enclosure before? I want to know if it's any good for noise suppression, out of the majority of hard drive coolers, this is one of the only passive ones and says it will reduce noise (I can imagine the ones with fans aren't that concerned about the noise aspect).

I have my raptor 150's in mCubed silent enclosures and never hear them over the 7900GTX.

However I have two 7200.9 80Gb Seagates in Zalman HC2 and they are silent as well. This case has no openings like my 830 does
