Looking to do away with my existing 250GB Maxtor drive. Looking to buy a 150GB Raptor for my main operating system drive and just use the Maxtor as storage etc

Is there anything out there thats equal to or faster than a Raptor?

I think the seagate 7200.10's are meant to be pretty dang quick, and a lot cheaper than a raptor too.

The 7200.10's are the ones with the lil jumper that you gotta remove? link me to one on here dude?

I read something about them i-ram things last year. 4GB tho? good for swap file etc but a bugger if you have a power cut

It has 12 hour battery backup, and not a concern if system is powered with UPS (will last a couple of weeks providing power for the motherboard) 4GB should be enough for Windows XP install.

Now i'm thinking raid 0 on my Gigabyte P35C DS3R

2 X Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM

or:

2 X Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM in raid 0

I'm looking for speed and storage size here? faster would be better if possible but i'm trying to keep things to the £160ish mark. Can anyone recommend which of the above? or if you know of a faster 2X combo i'm open to suggestions

The difference in speed between them is neglegeable. However the Western digital seems to run quieter. My votes would be with that

Do you think it might be better all round to go for 2X320 in raid0 and 1X500 for storage?:
--------------------------------------------------

2 X Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB 3200AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM in raid 0 for operating system
£108.08

and..

1 X Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB 5000AAKS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM
£70.49 for storage.

Total: £178.57
---------------------------------------------------
Seagate option would be:

2 X Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 320GB ST3320620AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM in raid 0 for operating system
£105.73

1 X Seagate Barracuda 7200.10 500GB ST3500630AS SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM for storage.
£79.89

Total: £185.61

Would this be better than 2 X 500GB in raid 0 costing £140- £160?

seagate vs wd, wd wins by a mile imo, in terms of speed and reliability

never had any bad wd drives, almost every seagate i've worked with has developed problems
