Raptor temperatures

Hey all.

I thought raptor temps were meant to be relatively low? I had 2 x 80gb maxtors before my upgrades, both running at 29oC tops. And upgraded to a 250gb WD which ran at about 29-35oC before getting this raptor.

Now my WD 250gb is running at 42oC, along with my raptor which is running at that temperature also, the raptor is above my other drive (space in between), and the rest of my system temps (CPU, motherboard, graphics) are normal.

Are the raptors meant to run hot? Im talking to my buddy now and his raptor is running 37oC full load.

My Raptor is mounted in a Silentmaxx enclosure with no case airflow as it is in the top 5.25 bay and I have seen it at 42 degrees with constant use. Normally sits low thirtys. It is running on average 5 degrees below my Seagate.

My HDDs are now running around 32-34 now. I spread them apart, put my raptor on the bottom, removed the dust filter on the front intake fan which is restricting the already limited air flow, and took the 12cm fan off the scythe kama bay and stuck it to the rear of the HDD cage to extract the hot air from them.

Not sure mate.

I was going to replace my scythe and gigabyte fans (both 800 rpm) which are cooling my HDDs with those Noctua ones people are ranting about, but seems itl be pointless.

I got my room fan out which is used to cool my room down in the summer, took my side panel off and put the fan on top speed facing into my PC. All my other temperatures dropped (CPU, GPU, Mobo) but my two HDDs remained the same temperature.

Im happy with the temps being at around 32oC though.

I'm not sure where you got the idea raptors run cool, as they are 10k rpm compared to 7200, so run slightly hotter.

I have the Raptor 74 in the silentmaxx enclosure, and it runs at around 40-42c passive (no fans near it). My 7200 Seagate runs at 36-38c without the silentmaxx, so you can see the difference there :)

Yeah but the temperature for my WD 250gb drive was the same as the Raptor. So i was wondering what the hell was going on lol, especially when my WD 250gb was running 10oC lower when i checked last week before i had my Raptor.
