Raptor X HDD with Clear Panel

This has been mentioned before I think...

Considering the increased cost, and that fact that once it's installed you'd be unlikely to see it again, it's a bit of a gimmick really.

Its definetely half, ive seen it mentioned on a lot of reviews of the drive. WD are cleverly hiding it somewhere though. The normal 150GB raptor has "With 1.2 million hours MTB" mentioned on its specs, however the clear panel one makes no mention of the MTBF anyway in the spec sheets at all.

The warranty is still 5 years on both though, but the clear panel drive is more likely to fail, twice as likely if you go by the specs.

I've had one of these for a week, and am very satisfied with the product. It has amazed everyone who has seen the drive in action, seeing the needles and platters through the window, and by how quick the OS and programs load. Ofcourse there is no point owning this drive if you aren't able to see the drive, I have a clear case so that is why I decided to spend a bit more money.

I haven't let the lower unconfirmed MTBF bother me either. By inspection of my drive it is a product of high quality, and I don't see much could go wrong with it, but if anything does happen I'll let you guys know.

I don't get how you'd actually see the drive in most windowed PC cases - surely it is surrounded by the cage and tucked up right at the front of the PC?

Yeah, the hard drive is located in a cage when used in a windowed case, and so there is no point in buying this drive. However, my case is completely clear, so you can see all the components from all angles, including the hard drive - perfect.

Thanks welshtom for that! It's not just windows and clear cases i'm interested in though. I don't buy products just they have windows, performance comes first. The fact that the hard drive had a window was just a bonus, I would have still bought a 150GB raptor if there no windowed version.
