please please bring back search :D this forum must be getting filled with duplicate posts.

anyway, just got my new 150 gig raptor installed. its the new one with 16meg cache. i'd heard it made some noise, and others said it was not really noticeable.

i've never had a hdd that makes a noise like this before (in fact i've never really heard hdd noise before).

i'm not complaining by the way. its not annoying to me (not yet anyway), but it makes this kind of scraping noise (that is not the best description but i don't know how else to say it), that i didn't expect. i have to say that those who reported that it was a noisy hdd were pretty much on the money.

however, i'll do anything to get my system running faster!!! immediately transferred all my games over to it for a speed boost :D

I wouldn't say it's that much noise - but whenever I have to restart windows or something then it can be heard from the other side of my room quite easily. Well worth it though.

agreed, it is not that noisy, but my hdd's have always been silent before, so i'm culture shocked

and agreed, its worth it.

had time to play with the system a bit now.

definitely faster. boots faster, starts firefox faster, etc.

that will do me :D

bring on the 500 gig raptors so i can get all my data on one as well (no i don't fancy raid). :p

I have the 74gb version, i personally don't think the performance is that great over some of the current sata2 drives.

Not planning to sell it though, so it gets to be my main drive till it dies or fries!.... :D
