How much better is the raptor 150Gb than the average disk?

Just got one and my vista score dropped! admitidly only 0.1 point to 5.2 but still was expecting more from it.

Went from a 150gb Samsung spinpoint, anything I could check to make sure its running at its optimum? disapointed at the moment, hoping its something ive missed as for the price I could have got another 750gb samsung :)

Hmm, a 150gb raptor should be a 5.9 in vista. Post up a HDTach and we will see if its running right. Should be around 8.1ms and 75Mb/s average trasfer rate (I think . . . )

well after a lot of playing, changing from ide mode to ahci mode, updating drivers etc I managed to get an average of 75mb/s up from 45mb/s, and an access time of 8.8 to 8.3.
and a index score of 5.8

Much better, thanks very much for the idea of hdtah, never heard of before but a great way of testing a disk - though my disk was duff!

Raptors are nippy, but horribly noisy when you have disk activity. Had to stop windows doing a weekly defrag / updates at 3am because it was waking me up :(

off-topic question but would vista hpx64 have a problem installing on a 36gb raptor? I know its enough physical space, just that I heard a rumor that Vista doesnt install on some drives below 40gb... or is that nonsense a friend was spewing out...?

Dunno about that, but you would have to install games etc on another drive. I found a 150Gb raptor a squeeze with all the crap I install.

Hi,

Has OC stopped selling the Western Digital Raptor 150GB 10000RPM? I recently bought one with the intention of getting a second ?

Thanks,

Adam. :)

Would have to disagree with that comment based on my experince of both the 36GB and 300GB raptors, the 300GB is amazingly quiet (or maybe my hearing is going, I'm not as young as I used to be).

Also see below the speed of the 300GB as a reference to the results you are getting from the 150GB

BTW, here from my other post.

" Incase you did not know the NEW Firmware on V-Raptor 300GB's over the Engineering Samples Firmware reviewed by the websites takes the drive to 110/MB/sec Avg Sus Read up from 103/MB/Sec Avg Sus Read. "
