I currently have the following hdd's in my pc:

1x 30gb IDE - System (8gb) & Programs (20gb)
1x 60gb IDE - Music
1x 160gb SATA - Downloads / Games / Installs etc

I have roughly £200 I wanna invest in getting rid of the old hdds and getting with the times so to speak. I have a NAS system on my network at the moment with 1x 80gb in there n will put my 60gb drive in there when I've replaced it.

I'm a very avid BF2 player, and yes, as sad as it is - I want to load quickly into game, and yes I want to boot up into windows fast too. I'm a huge multi-tasker within windows, for example 6x firefox, mirc, torrents, trillian, teamspeak, winamp all on the go at the same time, n I like to browse my pc n load up programs quickly (very impatient)

Basically guys, the question is, with £200 what would be the best way to get a speed increase on what I have whilst still giving myself enough space to get me through my day?

Appreciate any help, thx

I would replace the old 30GB with a Raptor 74, using it for Windows / Program Files / Games and keep the 160GB for your data/media.

You can pick them up for £115 on OcUK or £80-90 on members market (remembering it has 5yr warrenty so buying 2nd Hand shouldn't be a problem).

You guys reckon a 74gb raptor (singular or raid0??) also, is it best to partition it, or will the performance increase only be small?

I wouldn't bother with a raptor, barely noticed mine when I upgraded, go with a nice SATA-II 16mb drive like adwhitworth suggests and get four times the capacity and similar performance :)

IMHO, you seem to need more space and speed.

For ~ £200 you could get a 74Gb Raptor and 320Gb WD. That is what I am using + 200Gb Seagate. I shall probably be changing my 74Gb Raptor for 150Gb one.

A mate has offered me another 160gb sata, so all space problems would be solved. Its the raptor that would probably be needed I guess....

/me hunts for 2nd hand 74gb :D

thx for all your help guys

tbh ive recently bought a raptor from a fellow ocuk'er and not really noticed a massive improvement from my WD2500KS. Id say its a bit more 'snappy' in windows and when loading games and things.

Ive got a feeling ill get fed up with the uber loudness on full load, and just get another WD2500KS :p

I only brought my Raptor 36GB this week and it is a LOT faster starting up that my Hitachi 160GB SATA-II. I'm not really bothered about benchmarks and things myself but on the whole it seems quicker.

i have to say mate, i used to be with the whole "ignore raptor too much money, too much noise speech" without actually owning or ever having demoed one in person, just following the trail of many who disgrace it. But then I actually bought one. the 3.9ms access speed means starting up is a doddle, use the raptor for you C: drive, it will make loading smaller applications general windows use 200% fasterbetter ; i guarantee.

Oh and as for the raptor noise, it's barely noticable, i seriously think half these guys who badmouth raptors for noise have never actually heard one.
I have a fan running around 40db and I can hear that over the raptor!
