Raptors

Never had the 74gb so cannot say but just got a 150 and apart from some seek noise (which is no worse than Maxtors) I would say it is pretty quite most of the time.

Biggest issues I have found in the past day since getting it are:

1: Had to do a low level fill it with 0 format otherwise it was reporting a bad HD block. On researching this I discovered that all HD's usually have some bad blocks so not worried about this as the WD tools now report it is healthy.

2: For some reason XP will not let me enabled Write Caching as the option is greyed out.

Apart from that its all good and XP takes approx 20 secs to boot up with the QX6850. Still not sure if it would beat Raid0 with a couple of SATA2 drives though as I dual boot and 2 x Samsung 2504C's in Raid0 are pretty quick and totally silent.

I found the 74gb Raptors to be no louder than the 36gb ones. The 150 drives however seem to me to be a liitle louder when seeking.

It all depends what you're used to though. To me the noise is not an issue, but If you're going from say a couple of spinpoints to raptors then you could well think they are loud.

I have 2 installed in raid 0 with Vista, and they do seem to chatter for a good few minutes after boot, but I think this is due to Vista rather that the raptors.

Thanks

Problem is that i have just spent a bit of cash on making my system quieter - ie 4 sharkoon fans 2X 500gb spinpoints and a silent box for my 74gb raptor, but the raptor is still loud on seek, and now getting annoying but i dont want to go back to a 7200 drive for windows.
