Hello :) new to forums.

Thinking about budget build for gaming at 1080P.

Looking at FM2+, either Kaveri (A10-7850K minimum) or an Athlon X4 760K. This will be paired up with a R9 270X (MSI Gaming).

I am downgrading from my I7 because I want some money back, don't need it.

Everything else I do is general PC stuff, browsing, word processing, programming, etc.

Thank you all :)

Thanks :) Isn't it only up to the R7 250 though? That'll crossfire I mean?

Yeah everyone keeps saying I am mad for suggesting it. But I don't know why I bought the 3770 in the first place  It was a waste of money.

Will the downgrade honestly be worth it though? the i7 will last longer in terms of performance = no need to upgrade for a while.

But if you're cash strapped then go for it but I'd leave it as a last resort.

I suppose.

I just keep thinking about it, I paid £215 for my I7-3770 plus £75 for the board. Quite a bit of money spend :(

And now I regret it :( ha

That's fair enough but how much will you realistically get back for them? Once you've reinvested that into a lower spec system I can't imagine you having much cash left over.

Hmmm that's true :(

I was hoping to sell it locally on Gumtree because the I7 and my board is literally a few weeks old so was hoping to get near full price for it.

But hey ho.

Thanks all, I suppose I was being a bit unrealistic :(

Truthfully? Because I read about that there wasn't any point going for Haswell over Ivy Bridge, and I figured my board would allow the enhanced turbo feature (all cores to max multiplier), instead of the new on-die set that disallows any tweaking in Haswell.

Ooops :(

You could try listing it for near retail price and perhaps display the receipt proving it's almost brand new, you might get some interest, worth a go i suppose if your dead set on getting rid of it.

Thanks for the help :)

I'll list it on Gumtree, not daring to list it on eBay or Amazon as their fees will suck the money from it.

I'll give it a shot. Just want some cash back really and to move to a simpler CPU/GPU setup.

Update:

Listed on Gumtree, I will also put the batch code in so they know :)

I know the i7 is great, but how would a quad core Kaveri or even Athlon X4 suit for gaming?

I don't do anything computationally expensive except for those CPU hungry games such as the ARMA series etc.

Thanks for all the help :)

Just a heads up, the rainforest place is a direct competitor who we shouldn't really mention regarding PC related items, the same goes for the other two, though I think you're OK to mention that you are going to sell something on there.

It is in the forum rules to not mention competitors. :)

If you go on Anandtech Bench CPU (Google should take you there) you can compare the performance between different CPU's.

Oh, very sorry I won't mention them again :)

Thanks for that I forgot about Anandtech's benchmarks. Looks like the Athlons are not on there, but the A10-5800K is I'll have a compare!

Thanks :)

Update:

OK I am thinking, if I can sell my I7 and board for a bit then maybe put that cash towards a beefy graphics card. Say R9 280X (yum).

Would Kaveri have any problem with the R9 280X? Of course I would rather full GPU usage rather than being bottlenecked.

As long as my frame rates are at 30 and above (like they are now) I am a happy person :)

Can't you sell the 3770K and pick up a used 2500K for circa £100? That would be better with a 280X than Kaveri.
