Hi there,

My old IP35 pro with GF8800 GTX is close to the end and I need to upgrade just the guts of my rig as I still have a good OCZ ZX Series 850W Power supply and my Zalman CNPS9700 CPU Fan should fit a Socket 1155.

Im looking to upgrade to this lot:

Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - OEM £265.99 http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-397-IN

Also What can I expect to get from stable over-clock settings?;)

I'd save some cash getting the 2500k and 8Gb of ram, then use it to get a better GPU. Can also save some cash getting the vanilla or pro versions of that motherboard. Unless of course you need something specific to the deluxe version?

Yer if its purely for gaming, then the i7 doesn't really offer any real significant boost in terms of performane for games, which is why most people would recommend the i5 instead, if on a budget. But overall it seems like a solid piece of kit ;)

Tbh...I would just drop down to a 2500k, drop the motherboard down aswell and get another 560Ti with the saved money and run in SLI.....

if your gaming go for this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
1 x Intel Core i5-2500K 3.30GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £173.99
1 x Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £144.98
1 x G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ) £35.99
1 x Arctic Cooling MX-4 Thermal Compound (4g) £8.99
Total : £575.34 (includes shipping : £9.50).
unless there is something specific that the asus motherboard can do that the asrock cant

if your doing heavy video editing/encoding, CAD/CAM, animation work, etc, etc then go for this:

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-2700K 3.50GHz (Sandybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor - Retail £263.99
1 x MSI GeForce GTX 560Ti OC Twin FrozR II 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £199.99
1 x Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Gen3 Intel Z68 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard £144.98
2 x G.Skill RipJawsX 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL ) £35.99 (£71.98)
1 x Arctic Cooling MX-4 Thermal Compound (4g) £8.99
Total : £701.93 (includes shipping : £10.00).

if you want to spend extra, blow it all on the graphics card or an SSD.
for the graphics card it doesnt matter if you go ATI or Nvidia, but make sure its got 2GB VRAM or more
if you choose an SSD, get a 128GB crucial M4

Ok Im almost ready to take the plunge now.

The only difference is i'm going for the Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge)
But should i stick with the Asus P8Z68 DELUXE GEN3 Intel Z68
or go for the Asus P8Z77-V PRO Intel Z77

• Newer Z77 board

What case do you have?

I've edited my basket to this:

Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail
Asus P8Z77-V DELUXE Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair Force Series 3 120GB SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Drive (CSSD-F120GB3-BK)
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual RED
Crucial Ballistix Tactical Tracer 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C8 1600MHz Dual BLUE
Zalman CNPS9900-MAX Blue LED CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775/LGA1155/LGA1156/LGA1366/AM2/AM2+/AM3)

"As you can tell i'm a sucker for Blue LED's" but do you think the Zalman CNPS9900 will be ok for a 4.6 Ghz overclock ?
also I'm gona wait till the new PCI 3.0 Nvidia GTX Graphics cards come out and see how the on board graphics run for the moment.

The Zalman cooler will manage that overclock.

If you are a sucker for Blue, Gigabyte do Black PCB boards with Blue accents.

Is the two RAM kits there on purpose? to add extra colour?
