Rate my system (compatibility?)

So I am thinking of buying a new rig, as my current one just ain't hacking it anymore (A64 3200+, Radeon 9800, 1GB PC3200) and have cobbled the following together (have everything else):

CP-128-IN Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB) - Retail (CP-128-IN)

MB-011-IN Intel DP965LT 965 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard - Retail (MB-011-IN)

GX-022-BG BFG GeForce 7950 GX2 OC 1024MB GDDR3 TV-Out/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) - Retail (GX-022-BG)

MY-058-GL GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2 Dual Channel Kit (GX22GB6400UDC) (MY-058-GL)

I am very unsure of the motherboard, I have some 965Perl's at work and they wouldn't run with an older GeForce, and had other problems with them too. Compatibility wise, is that system feasable? What about futureproofness and overclockability? How much of a performance increase will it give me approx. in modern games?

Rather go for the Gigabyte DS3 or DS4

my one issue would be spending so much money on a 7950 X2 when DX10 cards are just round the corner now. why not plump for a faaaaar cheaper card like a 7900gt, or even a 7600gt, and save the money to buy a dx10 card when they come out?
that system, whether it has a 7900, a 7950 or a x1900 is guna rock compared to an aged 9800 on an xp3200 anyway. in one of my pcs i went from a 9800pro to a 7600gt and the improvement between them in games was massive, BF2 went from only being playable at 1024*768 and everything disabled, to easily playable at 1200*1024 with lots of eye candy turned on.

The reason for that is that I will not go the Vista route, so no DX10 for me

Gigabyte DS4 looks good, esp. the two PCI-E x16 slots look interesting.

Any other thoughts?

One pci is x16 the other is x4 so not meant 4 crossfire or sli m8. Here are two threads on software crossfire. Afaik these are 975 boards. Idon't think someones tried this on 965 boards yet, but I may be wrong. Nevertheless Arthalan has concluded that it is not worth the additional cash outlay for a second card for the performance increase. I still prefer the DS4 over the DS3 simply because of the dual three phase power supply and heat pipe cooling.
