Rate the last game you've played

You don't necessary have to give it a score out of 5 or 10 but a brief general review of the game would be good enough.

Hoping this will be an ongoing thread.

Mine:

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Vegas

There's a lot of similarities to the Ghost Recon games, probably more so than the original rainbow six games. I feel the focus has definitely switched towards the action rather than tactical play. They've tried to incorporate as many opportunities to use the assault mode where by you break with your 2 team members and enter into a room full of bad guys. It does get a bit repetitive and I ended up going in all guns blazing for the majority of the time. I like the new cover system they've put in, very handy. Although for some reason you can't learn anymore?

I haven't had time to play any online games yet so can't comment there. The story on the single player campaign seems pretty generic and i ended up ignoring parts of it.

Love the weapon variety in the game. So many guns to choose from which makes the game that bit more enjoyable. The fight sequences in general are pretty chaotic but are pretty fun.

My major gripe is bullets aren't really penetrable at all so you have to wait for your enemy to pop his head up instead of just shooting the box hes crouching behind. Although this has been addressed in the 2 game I do believe. Also the check point saves (similar to resident evil sort of) are put in really annoying places which means having to re-do a whole map about 3-4 times if you keep dying

Graphically the game is good but not great. The unreal engine does look like its being used in the vegas areas with all the bright & vivid lights but in other moments you'd think they were still using the old GRAW engine. My 7900GS just about coped with it but at times it was extremely hard to shoot long ranged enemy troops with the low FPS. Probably an issue a lot of you wont encounter with your crazy 9 graphics cards attached to each other

Overall decent enough game without being great or doing anything significantly different in the fps genre. Wow, that wasn't as brief as I would have wanted :p

Last game i played was World of Warcraft but i play that regular so i wont count that.

So Portal (well last game i can remember playing all the way through)

Fantastic game not many like it. Some of the other maps that can be downloaded are very good and challanging. You wont like this if you are not into puzzles. This is one of a kind first person puzzle game, well ive not seen another game like it.
The story is crazy whoever wrote it is a genuis and i dearly hope there will be another.
The accual game is fairly short you could complete it in a couple of hours but dont let that put you off.

my rating 8/10 If it was longer it would have 10/10

Command and Conquer 3 - Kanes Wrath

Tried and tested formula, nothing new. On Easy/Normal setting too easy on single player campaign to sit and build massive resources before attacking. Too scripted by far and not thought out enough in this area.

But.....Still played the single player campaign on Easy...medium and just finished it on Sunday on hard settings. Loved every minute. I'm a sucker for all things RTS :)

Dkes

I recently dug out Command and Conquer Generals + Zero Hour. In my opinion, it is the best CC game there has been. Campaigns are pretty good, the additions Zero Hour made are awesome as well. The only bad point about it just now is EA have let the online lobby system go to the dogs :(

8/10, still a fine RTS, and you can probably pick it up for a bargain these days.

Crysis = 3/10 for being so buggy but if there wasn't any bugs it would get a 8/10

GRID = well this just gets a 1000/10 for just being amazing

Just finished Shadowgrounds Survivor on Hard.

Adds a great deal to the first game especially with the secrets. Will probably play through again to get all the extras.

Just good old fashioned fun and reminds me of alien breed / tower assault.

8/10

From last game i played to months ago,

GRID, 8/10
Crysis, 4/10
COD4, MP 9/10
COD4, SP 9/10 (would have been 10/10 but it was too short)
Portal, 10/10
Episode 2, 8/10

Flat Out 2 - 8/10

Pros: Fantastic game, still has reasonable graphics, hours of endless fun, works with a 360 pad, and you get points by smashing into stuff! Great physics model, good replayability, very long (but not repetitive) single player mode.

Cons: The in game music. It's all by popular bands, but not exactly to my taste. Whilst the 360 pad works in game, it doesn't work that well for the menus, so you have to navigate the menu via kb and then sit back with the pad.

When all's said and done, the game is a tenner on steam, and can probably be had for a fiver elsewhere. If you haven't got it, you're a fool!

Alone In The Dark - 8.5/10

I really can't see why this game gets slated so bad? I know the driving section through NY is almost game breaking because of the difficulty, but apart from that a great game!

Last game i played:

Uncharted : 9/10

Really a fantastic adventure title, a fantastic blend of an excellent shooter and platformer with a touch of puzzle solving with lovable characters, a decent storyline and utterly top notch voice acting. Deducting a point because its just too damn short, clocking in at around 12 hours on a first playthrough.

Last PC game i played:

Mass Effect : 7/10

This game is one of the most upsetting titles i've played in years. Not because it was bad, not by a long shot, i love bioware RPGs and this seemed to fit the bill perfect. But it finished, in less time than it took to complete a game like uncharted. When a RPG is shorter than an action game you know somethings wrong, yes i know i could have explored more and gone to more planets (only did 50% of the sidequests), but the ending snuck up on me so suddenly i hadn't gotten involved enough in the world to really want to explore. I'm knocking off 2 points for the length and an extra point for a storyline that, while above average, isn't really anything special in the RPG world.

Amazing game, immense gameplay. Half a point off cos it's a bit short.

Unreal Tournament 3 - 4/10
I loved UT2004, still play it to this day, but this is a complete dissapointment. Everything has gone downhill tbh.

What are the main reasons the reviewers marked it down? From the little snippets of gameplay I've seen it looked pretty decent

How do I change the title of my thread? I just edited it to say 'you've played' but it hasn't updated. Can only mods change the title?

I think the Zero Punctuation review sums it up very well. It's a game with so much potential and some fantastic ideas that was unfortunately rushed to release (or at least felt that way). Silly problems that could have been avoided like a bad camera and a tiny amount of inventory space marred what was at its core a decent game.

Oh right. Is the camera issue really that bad? I still want to give the game a try

It was bad enough to make me stop playing, however you have to consider that at the same time as borrowing that the same friend had lent me mass effect and i had bought uncharted so they stole my playtime and before i knew it i had to give it back. Some people clearly do like it and i can imagine if it was the only game i had at the time i would have given it more of a chance. I think i saw a copy floating around on the members market cheap, and i'm sure other places have second hand copies for very little. To be honest i'm currently trying to borrow it again as i for some reason have a want to give it another proper go, so it can't have been too bad.

Are we talking the last game you played, or the last game you finished?

PC - FM2008
Not a game for everyone, but for us football fanatics that love to dream the dream that we'll one day be in charge of our favourite clubs... bringing in the players we know would work. It's fantastic!

The depth as always is brilliant, the sheer vast amount of talent in the game is phenominally detailed. I love the fact that you can bring a club from the bottom of the Blue Square South/North and take them to the very pinacle of footballing greatness. Get tired of England? Branch out to Germany, Italy, Spain, Russia, Japan, Sweden... where-ever there is a decent league to be found... it's in Football Manager.

And lets face it, us fat so and so's sat in our armchairs at home with a pint in one hand and a packet of crisps in the other on a Saturday screaming at Andy Gray on Sky Sports calling him a BLEEPING BLEEPER... screaming at our teams manager to get so and so off, sign this guy and put this guy on. Well, we all know more than them don't we :)
