1) General awareness/anticipation
10/10 - I can anticipate traffic lights changing and I'm aware that one of my rear wheel bearings is a bit noisy.

2) Parking ability
10/10 - Any gap, any time. You could barely get a fag paper between the bumpers when I park.

3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco?
10/10 - Perfect binary control, just as it should be.

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users?
10/10 - Sorry, what are these other road users you talk of?

5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?
10/10 - It's my way, or the highway.

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions
7) " wet/icy conditions
10/10 - Those are the only two driving styles I know?

8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape
7/10 - I'm not too bad with the body hammer and filler, but not my favorite job.

Not going to rate myself on all points but will agree with Freefaller on this one, my general awareness/anticipation on the bike HAS to be high otherwise I'd get splatted. :(

1) Pretty good, I spend most of the time wondering what other peeps are upto, hav'nt flattened anybody - yet.

2) Crap in my car,I always park about 2feet from the kerb.... average to good in my truck.

3) Nice 'n Smooth - Cars an Auto & I rarely use the clutch in the truck.

4) Much better than the "Mr Angry" I was a few years back.

5) Better than average, I keep a copy in my cab and have read it many many times.

6) Very good, I drive within me & my vehicles limits.

7) Car, Switch off the traction control and get the rear end out! - Extra extra careful in the truck.

8) I hav'nt had it out of shape. (see #6 answer given to #7 taken into consideration) ;)

i think this may be the problem.
the scale of this is wrong.

1-5 = maureen to jo average
6-10 = joe average to *insert your driving fantasy..

in reality, if joe average is 5/6 then your driving fantasy is more 25-30 imo.

but also, as already said, racing around a track isnt what were talking about here, so using racers is kinda stupid to compare against

What do you drive/do for a living mate?
Honestly, thats a pretty brassy self assessment of yourself, I don't know you etc, but please disprove my reservations.
I'm not having a pop, just asking for your foundations.
It's not a 306 or a vtr is it? :p
 
1) General awareness/anticipation - 7 - I'd say this mainly due to lack of experience on the roads. The longer you drive, the more you know what is going on

2) Parking ability - 6 - Driving into spaces is fine in a car park but now I've got a longer saloon car, my parallel parking has gone to pot slightly though it will probably come back with time.

3) Brakes/Clutch control - 8 - Quite good now with clutch and brakes.

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users? - 9 - I'm not the type of person to rear-end (despite owning an Audi ;):p) and I'm very patient with pedestrians. Only thing which annoys me is middle lane drivers.

5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code? - 9 - Pretty good on the whole.

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions - 8 - I probably drive a little too fast round corners but I know the limits of the car very well now.

7) " wet/icy conditions - 6 - Probably due to lack of experience again.

8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape - 8 - Managed not to kill myself a couple of weeks back when my car decided to start moving sideways so I guess it's a sign :p

Traffic drivers are qualified to the highest standard available in the UK. Its very, very hard, and they're tested constantly to ensure they remain at this level.

Given the number of police vehicles on the road, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the fact they are very often required to be driven at very high speeds, in difficult conditions, the number of accidents is actually quite small.

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users?--depends,anywhere between a 0 or an 8 depending on the other drivers disposition/attitude/temper call it what you will.
5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code?--7,could and should be better
6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions.--more than an 8,less than a 9
7) " wet/icy conditions--i don't.talk about safety driving under these condidtions i'd rate myself a 10.i don't have anywhere near enough fast road experience on ice to drive any other way but cautiously.

1) General awareness/anticipation : 6 - I guess I don't use mirrors as much as I should but know where most things are.
2) Parking ability : 5 - Depends on the day, sometimes I'm good, others very bad
3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco? : 7 - I'd like to think I have fairly decent control once I'm used to the car after a few mins.
4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users? : 6 - Most of the time pretty courteous, the odd time when I'm king of the road!
5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code? : 3 - Know the odd thing or two, but that's why it's in a book to research ;)
6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions : n/a - Only had the car a few weeks and it's been wet/icy.
7) " wet/icy conditions : 0 - Not very high speed but the last (and first) time I had to it didn't turn out very well.
8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape : 4 - Not yet been in that position, but I'm sure I could correct basic things instinctively.
 
1) General awareness/anticipation - (9) I'm aways very aware of everything that's going on. When I'm cycling I'd rate myself as a 10 as I have to be if I want to stay alive.
2) Parking ability - (7-8) I can park without too much problem in most spaces however I've never tried to reverse park a bus before.
3) Brakes/Clutch control - nice and smooth or bucking bronco? - (9) As smooth as I ca n be with the type of cars I tend to own/drive.
4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users? - (10) I'm a very patient person and that translates to the road.
5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code? - (8) I probably couldn't tell you stopping distances nowadays as it's been 13 years since I passed my test but generally I've got a decent knowledge of the important things
6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions - (7) The MR2 can get very scary at high speeds, the Civic is a pussycat in comparison.
7) " wet/icy conditions - (9) Coming from the North I've spent most Winters knee high in snow so I've had a lot of experience. If I'm in the Civic though it's a 1 as those flippin tyres are terrible
8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape - (5) I used to think I was really good then I started driving more challenging cars which has forced me to lower my score. I'd rate myself pretty high if we were only talking about FWD cars but if I'm referring to the MR2 then it can humble me if I'm not respectful.

4) How patient and courteous are you to other road users? - 4 i'm quite happy to give way to people and always let people etc, but people driving at 40 in a 60 for example when its dry and the road is nice and straight drives me nuts and i can never wait to get past them.

5) What is your knowledge of the Highway Code? - 3 I know all the basic stuff like road markings and signs, but stopping distances and what to do at the scene of an accident & stuff like that i have forgotten.

6) High speed control of your car in dry conditions - Cant say for this as i dont really have much experience of it

7) " wet/icy conditions - I simply dont do high speed in the wet, ford capri's dont do wet weather very well unless you like spinning through hedgerows.

8) Your ability to correct your car when out of shape - 5 Although i have never got really out of shape before i have had the back end let go completely quite a few times especially on roundabouts and trying to nip out of junctions quick when its raining, i kept it pointing where i'm going every time so give myself a 5

I'm a delivery driver.
I've been a delivery driver since i left school, through mopeds, motorbikes, CDV's, Panel vans, Box vans, Multi drop deliveries, same day deliveries, long distance (in the UK)..............

I drive 10 hours a day, every day, through towns, country, villages, cities, back roads, motorways.....

So in the (well over half a million) miles ive driven, ive picked up:
No parking tickets or speeding fines, no points for jumping red lights, parking on white Zig zags.
Ive had:
No accidents AT ALL either by other peoples or by my own.

DRZ just has a problem with me saying i'm great.
AS for what "Car" i own, i dont, the wife has a KA, ive had:
Legacy turbo
Nissan Silvia Turbo.
Escort sport
XR3i
2.8 V6 granada
VFR750
CBR1000
KLR650
TDR250
RGV250
2 x RD350 YPVS.

It seems the difficulty with people on here is ONLY race drivers and Police can be brilliant drivers, because like, ordinary people cant be good at things.
Comparing me to a race driver is like comparing a Brain Surgeon to heart surgeon.
Both could save you life with a bit of practise at the others skills, but they will, obviously be better at their own speciality.

1) 9 (I sit up nice and high so get a better view of the road and upcoming obstacles than most other road users)
2) 10 (practice practice practice)

4) 8 (Low marks here, but I'm much better than I used to be)

* the proviso is as follows: I drive a two and a half tonne land rover, any situation in which I find 6,7 & 8 then I am not doing it right, either in my driving or my use of the diff-lock and low ratio transfer gears - it's a land rover and is not designed to be driven like a boy-racer-mobile unless I want to end up on my roof. Correct and legal motoring ought to negate the possibility of any of the last three options, and boring though it may be :p I have no wish to invite the inevitable by driving a vehicle like mine with such a care-free style.
