being driven insane by it

how easy* is it to open it up to see what the problem is, sounds like a wire on a fan or something. ive got a 680w TT psu.

cheers :)

How old is the PSU?

Could be the fan is ready to die. If so, get it replaced ASAP - nothing worse than an overheating PSU. ;)

It's not that difficult to open a PSU but you gotta be careful as they can store some power.

Also opening a PSU voids the warranty and I think most of them come with a 3 year warranty.

If it is rattling it is perhaps a bearing of the fan that is borked.

you think its worth emailing thermaltake and seeing what they say? only problem is i work from home and cant really afford to have a pc out of action for that long if sending back etc as they could and probably will take ages to sort it

The way I see it is that you have four options:
1) Open up the PSU and replace the fan
2) Buy a new PSU and get the old one RMA'd and sell the replacement
3) RMA your PSU
4) Do nothing

If you can't have the computer doen for a few weeks option 1 or 2 looks like the best ones.
