Raw Bramley apples - Why have I never tried one before...? Amazing!

I love my apples tangy crunchy and fresh, the problem is most apples seem to be soggy due to being shipped half way round the world and until recently my apple of choice was a golden delicious from france ( most are from south africa ... and are rubbish )
I usually try and source most of my food from closer to home whilst I was popping around the supermarket tonight hunting for some apples I came across the Bramley... this apple is always cooked and never seemingly eaten raw due to its strong taste and texture.

I just bought a bunch and decided to eat one raw. What a great apple, bitter sharp strong taste really crunchy and locally produced :)

Why do more people not eat these great apples raw?
 
I always have braeburn and they're always really crunchy and the juiciest apples I've ever had so much so it 'drips' down my hand after I bite into it.
 
This thread reminds me of when I tried making my own cider a couple of years back, I discovered 3 or 4 trees about town of different varieties. One was braeburn, one russet and another something like golden delicious. I really ought to go and get some apples off them soon, as they'll almost be ready.

That's you problem right there, they are just water bags at best.
There are thousands of great British varieties of apple, it's just that the supermarkets demand smooth, blemish free, uniform shapes and bugger to the taste.
Come Autumn there will be the rough skinned Russets which are fab and British

We have a young (7-8 year old) Russet tree in our front garden. It bore 5 fruit, there are four of us in our family - almost had a bundle to rush for the spare one. Absolutely gorgeous.
 
As much as I love the taste of Apples, my gums swell up if I eat them due to hayfever :( I can only have them cooked or pasteurised.

Sometimes I make the sacrifice :D
