Hi all. Trying to use the RAW mode with a 350D. I understand you can only use this in the manual modes so I have put it in mode "M". Whenever I focus on anything however the viewfinder always has the "-2" flashing on the scale that looks like -2-----.----+2

When images are taken even in a bright office they are really dark. All settings seem to be set to 0 exposure wise so why does it stay on -2? This happens on my mates 400D too which has confused us both!

In M mode you have to adjust the aperture and shutter speed manually. The flashing thing is the camera exposure meter. I sugest you read the quick manual that comes with the camera. Hope this helps :)

The 'manual modes' is different to the 'Manual (M) mode'. When people say manual modes, they mean those which don't have presets (Auto, portrait, sports etc). So they're the three modes where you can vary the aperture (Av), the shutterspeed (Tv) or both (M). If you plonk it straight into M mode, you have to set up the aperture and shutterspeed yourself - the camera won't do any light metering at all. It's best to play about in either Av or Tv, where the camera will adjust the non-manual counterpart to get a correctly exposed image.

When in M mode, the camera will give you an indication on the -2......+2 meter as to how light/dark the photo will be for the settings you've picked. In your case, the flashing -2 is the camera telling you the resultant image will be more than 2 stops darker than the ideal - you've got your shutterspeed too high and/or the aperture too closed.

I tend to walk about with the camera in Av mode, so I have control over the aperture and the camera picks the correct shutterspeed.

Yes you can. Switch it to P (program mode), it is like auto mode with options.
