I've been using a basic logitech keyboard and mouse (both wired) for a long time now, and being a frequent gamer I really need a better mouse. The keyboard i'm happy with.

I've been recommended Razer by a colleague, and I have a budget of about £40. It seems to me, on paper, the best is the Copperhead, however, I see the deathadder gets really rave reviews. My question is, which one is regarded as better for gaming and general use, despite the differing specs? I like the idea of extra mouse buttons too, i can see myself using those.

I suppose I should mention i'm right handed.

Also, the MX518 gets good reviews too, although a lot cheaper. Is there much difference between this and the Razer offerings?

It does look fantastic, but it's a bit too far over what I can justify paying for my first gaming mouse unfortunately.....

I have the Copperhead, Tempest Blue, took me a while to get used to the extra DPI, but once you do, it is great, no problems using it at all in America's Army or COD4.

I considered getting the Lachesis, but could not find a reason to change my Copperhead, I think when I eventually get a 24" monitor I might.

Think i'll go for a tempest blue copperhead with an exactmat then. Only other question is can you turn off the lights in the mouse via the programming options or is it just a niggle i'll have to put up with?

I have never looked to see if you can.... hang a minute.... I will boot it up and have a look for you.

Saying that the lights are quite subtle and you dont really notice them, I am quite picky about flashing/light things.

brb.. ;)

the lachesis has a higher dpi (4000 compared to the deathadders 1800) but the deathadder is ergonomically designed for the right hand user which i really love, and is quite a bit cheaper.

Ok, thanks a lot for checking for me!

So the deathadder is likely to be more comfortable than the copperhead aswell? I will be using it as my main mouse every day, so perhaps this is something I should take into account...

Got a copperhead. Came from a Logitech MX510 and in some ways I miss my MX510, but I can definately recommend the Copperhead.

with a deathadder you can definately turn the lights on/off. you can also set the wheel light and logo light seperately (have one on and one off)

+1 for the death adder.
been using mine for about a year and love it so comfortable and excellent response in games smooth to use.
I use it with a razer mantis speed mat and it is excellent.

I have an old Diamondback, that I bought 5 years ago, or so. Still running strong, and had no problems. So if you need a testament that they last :)

I considered replacing it recently, but as I'm not really an avid gamer any more, I think I may sin, and purchase a wireless keyboard/mouse combo, just for convenience.

Deathadder.

Don't worry about the 1800dpi. Most laser mice over that dpi are pale imitations and incredibly twitchy to boot. 1800dpi is plenty and the infra red led tracks far better than any laser (i've used various saitek and razer laser's and found them to perform below led versions).

The deathadder seems to track smoother and more accurately than any other mouse i've used. If you're right handed and it's within budget then it's a no brainer IMHO.

Yeah aviod the laser mice.

This is inches per second that the mice function properly under before negative acceleration.

as you can see optical is still king regardless of marketing hype. Now if you use a really high sens with steady movement then laser is fine but if you want low sens and a high mouse speed then optical is the one.

I use 30cm/360 which isnt that low and both the copperhead and lachesis fail on me.
