i got a new mouse for my birthday, but im stuck... i just can't get the setup right, if that makes sense, i change it then play for a bit before changing back,

the dpi goes to 3500.. so is that best for gaming? and what about polling rates?

DPI is a marketing tool really after about 800. Lowering it might make it easier to get windows / games both feeling right.

500hz is the best the DA can hold totally solidly also if i recall so its worth leaving it on that.

500hz = 500 solid
1000hz = 500-1000 randomly.

I've got a Mamba atm, I keep the DPI around 2K because more than that just seems a bit unnecessary, polling at 1K. I've tried other settings but that just seems the most natural for me.

thanks guys, i have come down from 3500dpi, my sniping was way off, stuck at 1800, so what does polling do?

As i said previously, DPI is a gimmick. I play pretty competitively and i deliberately lower mine to 400dpi from 5700dpi which my mouse can do just so it doesn't affect accel in a negative way.

Polling rate is very different as it makes the mouse feel far more responsive but most mice can't hold 1000hz polling solidly so if set at this tend to hover inconsistency around 600-1000 randomly. 500hz is a safe amount to set this to for smoothness and consistency on pretty much any mouse including the one your on :)

polling rate is just how much the mouse will update the pc.

leave it on 500, as bobert says there's no gain going to 1000

as for dpi, go with what feels comfortable; i run mine around 1000dpi, if i'm sniping i'll drop it to 600/800

The Deathadder actually performs best at 1800 dpi from benchmarks. 1000hz vs 500hz doesn't make too much of a difference to be honest.

You should definitely switch windows pointer sensitivity to 6 by the way. Anything other than 6 is really bad. This explains why. You should try and change as few sensitivity settings as possible. The best way to do it is set the mouse dpi as what you want then tweak the in game sensitivity secondly. Don't change windows pointer or the sensitivity in the Deathadder control panel. You want as few changes in sensitivity as possible.

Must admit I never even used the drivers when I had mine, I just plugged and played and it was great. No idea what the dpi was if I didn't use the drivers though, still 1800?

Am I right in saying that optical are better than laser sensors? I always have found it easier to handle higher dpi with an optical.

Tricky question :) on the whole yes but the laser sensor in the g9x / g500 is very good but most laser sensors are very bad! optical sensors are almost all pretty good.

Actually that explains problems with making it higher. In fact if you follow there logic, a lower Windows Sensitivity is actually BETTER.

Anyway, I personally use an Imperator at full 5600dpi all the time. Some games I have to reduce the sensitivity even further than in-game sliders allow, but it doesn't really matter.

IIRC, my Windows pointer speed is at 2 or 3, and my polling rate is at 1000Hz.

Thanks for the information guys, ive been using higher sensitivity on my Windows pointer with the Deathadder. I've now switched to 6 but getting used to the slower sensitivity now.

Also changed to 1800 dpi from 3500 dpi.

With razer mice I would assign a macro to one of the side buttons and enable on the fly sensitivity, for example side button 5 - Back + On the fly sens.

Since the deathadder lacks any dedicated sensitivity switching buttons this is the best way to quickly increase and decrease sensitivity in games.

Am I the only person who never adjusts their sensitivity/DPI while playing games?

Granted I have a G500, but I only use 800dpi and stick to it. :eek:

I thought I used my DA at 3500 while on games, not quite sure.

Just got my naga, using that around 3.5, just went down to 1.8 and to move around desktop takes forever! (not changed windows sensitivity)

Just installed DA drivers (got the da and naga in at same time) Seems like DA DPI is 1.8k as default so would be using that

How does the on the fly work? I know i can set a button for it.
