I know there are a few RC Nitro nuts here ;)

Help!

I have just purchased my 1st nitro car, a HPI MT2. I have followed the instructions, and I cannot get the damn thing to run in!
It idles for about 30secs then stalls.

I even watched the DVD that came with it (SAD I know!) but that does not help.. perhaps I should have bought an electric one...

SOMEONE please help me!

How is it idleing? (fast/slow blah)

Try leaning out your HSN (high speed needle) 1/8th of a turn, it should get it to idle fine.
Engine often stall dureing break in useing the idle meathod, due to the richness of the fuel going in, but it is needed.

Just have some patience really.

well.. fast/slow... put it this way, the wheels dont turn..

HSN, thats the one on the top

Ta muchly for the advice, any one else got insights?

Anyone got any opinions on the car?

Stratos: will post pics tomorrow PM, will be out in the morning on a 4x4 training jolly.
edit: I purchased it from a local model shop here in Exeter, bit of an impulse buy tbh

I just bought a Savage, arrived today, not had time to run it in yet or anything with all my uni work at the moment though. About a month ago I bought a smaller and cheaper truck called an ACME Conquistador, basically it broke 2 clutches and the rear diff within 2 tanks of fuels after the break in. Useless POS.

I hope my new Savage is better, and going by reviews online, it certainly looks like it.

Reppyboyo do you have MSN? If you do could you add me (address under avatar), I like having people's brain's to rack when I do something wrong! :p

Don't run idle tanks. You want to get the engine in various heat cycles. Look on maxbashing for tips on how to run your engine in better.

Try adjusting the idle and rich mixture. Check seals and for any air bubbles. Check glo plug is working, is correct tightness (don't overtighten)

for more info. I think nitro is rubbish and went into large scale petrol cars.

Im trying to persuade myself that investing £400 of my student loan on a new savage is a good idea at the moment. :D

It also depends who you listen to as to whether idling to break a car in is enough or that heat cycling is any better. Personally i see no problem with idling a car in for a couple of tanks and going slow with a few blips of the throttle for another couple.

FG`s are fun, but cant bash no where near as good as a Savage.
Nitro`s are not bad at all, you just have to learn some patience and how to tweak the engine correctly.

It starts at £400, then you start noticeing all the hops ups about, then it sharply rises.

Glasgow Titan Ive added you.

As for the idle vs heat cycle meathod, theres no proof that one works better than the other.
For my STS .28 I did a hybrid.

Heat cycle the engine on a block about 6-8 times, then idle the rest of the tank normally, had to idle the rest to loosen up the engine abit more.

Then it was just a case of 2 tanks of 1/4 throttle.
2 tanks 1/2 throttle.
2 tanks blipping full throttle

From here you can begin tuneing but its best you take it easy for a while.
Break in is boring as hell, but a must.
