RC Helicopters

Mine were 2200's for my 450 so a bit smaller than what you would want for the 550.
They are however 237g each.
And no, no import tax at all.

Personally, I wouldn't buy multiple 6S packs from the Hong Kong warehouse. I've never been hit by customs personally, but I've never ordered anything that would arrive in a particularly big or heavy box.

I'd calculate for the hassle of customs (vat + the inflated royal mail/parcel force admin fee) and weigh it up against ordering from the DE warehouse. Then at least you have an objective view of the situation.

So the de warehouse includes the taxes already?

So im looking at getting into heli's.

Done a fair bit of research (And playing with my bro's Syma 107g, which gets boring quickly! but is great fun)
I have a few questions,

Is it worth going for a good transmitter right out the box, or should you just stick with the one that comes with the heli? I understand there can be some compatibilty issues.

Im not looking to spend much over £200 if i can help it to start out, any reccomendations? The honeybee seems the best match, although obviously i have no real idea, and it seems to be out of stock everywere.
I want something that will last me a while, be agile, work outside and take a while to master, any suggestions?

Edit: Theres a honeybee king 3 going cheap near me, thinking about picking it up? Seems like its a challenge to start but will last longer than the standard.

Depends how serious you are?

Spektrum dx6 will cost you 70 new. Minimum you should get if serious. If you have never flown anything more than a cheap toy, invest in something like Phoenix sim for around 40-50 second hand. Then buy a cheap to crash model like mcpx. If you still serious after that, trex500 ish should be the next step.

Is it worth me getting a controller if i get one with the heli though? Obviously when if i get into it it will be, but just starting out will it make much of a difference?
The sims look great, will be giving them a go before the real thing either way, so i dont trash it :D

MCPX is similar sort of price as the honeybee king, similar sort of model? Is that something i should be aiming for?

Amended last post as somebody is selling one close.

Obviously i dont want to splash out on a trex for a good while, hence wondering if its actually worth getting a controller till i get it?

If you're even considering getting half serious, buy a decent radio now. Dx6 a minimum, dx7/8 if you have it. The fact youre considering a sim would suggest you are serious.

Don't get a ready to fly model, the radio will be pants and worthless. If you go with an Msrx or mcpx you won't need anything other than the dx6 etc.

Mcxp isn't easy to fly but after sim time you should be ok.

Ok cool, so whats the deal with compatibilty, will the DX6 be compatible with the majority of medium end helis that i would be looking it?

I presume as its 6 channel i wont ever need to upgrade controller for any functional reason?

The dx6 will bind with most models and should do you all the way up to 6/700 size models costing four figures!

Can comment on the honeybee, never seen one. Since I joined heliadicts, ne'er heard it mentioned tho!

How much is it?

Fair enough, it seemed to be quite popular as a beginners heli at £130 HERE, but bearing in mind your likely to know more than me ill stick to the MCPX.

Now to look for a controller, Thanks!

Edit: What sort of cable/reciever do i need to link the transmitter up to the PC with?

You get the cable to connect the radio to the pc with the sim. Don't buy the sim without the cable!

Mcpx is tough, but cheap to repair! If no exp with 6 channel at all, consider Msrx.
