Just wondering if any other RC Plane users here... after a year or so flying just heli's just ordered a Electric Ducted Fan model from the states.

So much choice on these planes and in end bought a Rafale scale model (ok, it's gonna be tough flying a french jet lol, but they one of the best to fly apparently)

Top speed is quite low on these, maybe 60-70mph in a straight line.. and I know landing is gonna be tough :)

Vid of it flying on this page... http://www.hobby-lobby.com/rafale.htm

Gone with the ARF one and using my own radio gear.. bought a Spektrum DSM2 RX so no glitches.

Just can't wait to give it some beans :)

Should fly similar to this, though hopefully won't turn me into a ahole like this pilot ;)..

Gah I dunno i think I still prefer IC to electric. I've not been upto my flying field in quite a few months now even though my exams have been over for a while lol. It does look like quite a fun plane to fly but like you said it could be pretty tricky to land. That's one of the reasons I prefer IC, when you're landing them they tend to handle slightly better because they've used up most of their fuel.

However I don't think I could ever have as much fun flyin IC than I do flying my shock flyer :) Really kept me on my toes that one. In fact I've been out of the general flying loop for a while, have the prices of 2.4Ghz radios come down much now compared to what they were like at the start of this year? (the last time I looked)

Yeah you can get a Spektrum 2.4Mhz DX6i with full range reciever for £85. That's what I use an i'm very happy with it.

I've been into flying models for a few months now - already got 7 planes! My most recent additions I picked up at the British National Championships on sunday, a 3D plane and a bargain of an EPP wing with lipo / esc and brushless inrunner - £15!!

Have you flown a plane yet or are you just going to get stuck in?

My old mans into RC planes, all IC of varying types, he's got a loft full of them.

I'm looking to start too, need to find a decent electric trainer that'll take a few knocks though, any suggestions?

Have been flying for about 2 years now. All of them are RTF have 2 aerobirds, a stryker, and a slo v made by Parkzone.

I spent a lot of money and time on a Twinstar almost ready to fly electric.

I bought everything I needed and spent (wasted) a lot of time on it. To me it was quite a mission building it, a lot of glueing and lining up. Come first lauch it instantly nose dived. I was quite upset lol. From then onwards i've been a RTF guy, works out alittle more expensive as you are buying most of the parts over again, but I can't beat being able to fly instantly. Can see how many get enjoyment out of building and flying what they have built, but building just really frustrates me.

Its a great feeling flying a RC plane, so much more fun than RC cars.. loops, low passes, flying so high it becomes a dot in the sky.. makes for great fun risk ;). Have only had a couple of crashes due to loss of power, and having the thing fly so far away that I can't see which direction it is flying anymore in poor light lol.

That looks really nice Flukester, perhaps one day i'll get back into building.. how much time is needed to build it? I take it the flying wing type designs need less work?

I would get a Spektrum DX6i, a GWS Slow Stick for about £23, and a 3 Cell LiPo, ESC, and Brushles Outrunner (get these from www.giantcod.co.uk - by FAR the cheapest and very good products / service).

I taught myself on this setup so you will easily pick it up with help from your old man. The slow stick is very forgiving and flies at 5 to 15 mph depending on throttle. Great to learn the basics on in calm weather but you can't fly it in heavy wind unless your skilled! Once you have it sussed then I suggest moving on to an aileron plane or an EPP wing. www.flyingwings.co.uk do a great starter package for £45 - the Buzz I think it is, with motor / esc included. The wing is EPP so is extremely hard to break.

Don't do what I did and spend a lot of money on a low wing model made of balsa as you first plane!

From what I've seen IC is slowly being replaced as lipos getting so good. But it must be a real buzz flying IC with all the noise and fumes hmhmhmh.

2.4GHz is really coming down, picked up a Spektrum DX6i and RX for heli for £100 and it's a lovely bit of kit for the money (10 model memory).. certainly all I need.

What planes you have ?, I almost bought a shock flyer instead (was a Nexus 3D), and on thinking I think would have been a better buy as the way they move about is just sublime.

Wow! They have come down a lot then. That's about the same price as hte usual 35Mhz sets if I'm not mistaken. Maybe I should start going up to the club again :)

I don't think I've ever picked up a bargain like that from a show. God and lipos were so dear as well when I started to fly less, they must have come down too.

Haha lets not get into the whole IC versus electric debate. I fly both and they both have their strengths and weaknesses, although I agree with you about IC being phased out by electric, and it's no surprise seeing how techonology has become so much more advanced in recent years. You can't beat flying past yourself flat out at 50mph in a .40 size IC though, it's one of those things that never get old :)

I've got quite a mix of aircraft, but my proper (flyable) ones include a Twinstar (nice plane to fly around in a calm day, can get a bit hairy though once the wind picks up), a kit-built IC delta (very fast and *very* fun), a kind of hybrid pattern-ship/3D 46 sized IC plane, and a little contra-rotating bladed heli. I only got the last one though because I wanted to see what it's like. Totally different experience to flying aircraft. Quite difficult to get used to but once you've got it, it's pretty fun.

What aircraft/helis does everyone else have on here?

15 quid!!!!! man..... what other stuff you got ?

I've kinda jumped in at deep end though have plenty of hours on sim, hoping average heli skills will prevent to many big crashes, though I have bought plenty of epoxy as I know will need it :D

Nice planes...

I have the EDF Foamy Rafale on way,

BeltCP Heli - Fully upgraded with lots of bling for park flying (some of the lipos from this should go in Rafale hopefully). The head speed in Idle-up is crazy.

Walkera 4#3 for indoors, but it has full carbon frame on it so it's a new heli really (can hands off for at least 5-10 seconds it's so stable)

Gonna check out some of these slow stick / foam wings posted in thread, might be a better start into planes.

I have been flying for about 6 months now and am getting on pretty well. So far I have a Mustang, Cessna 182, T-28 Trojan, and a Edge 540 3D plane.

The Edge is my favorite, it has stupid amounts of power and is perfect for 3D flight.

Will probably post pictures of the others tomorrow.

Sry missed your quest, must pay more attention ;)... the Rafale comes pretty much RTF, just gotta glue on wings and hook up elevons (it only needs 3 servos because of the aileron / elevator mix design on delta wings I assume)

Your plane looks great btw, I'm aleady scared about maiden flight :)

That looks awesome man!!, yeah post up some more piccys...

Well to list mine in the order that I bought / was given them:

Great Planes mini super sportster (low wing balsa - crashed on 3rd flight) LINK
GWS Slow Stick (great for lazy flying and aerial photography) LINK
SAS Mamba (small nimble EPP wing, combat slope soarer) LINK
SAS Venom (larger EPP wing, more stable but not as nimble/fast, combat slope soarer) LINK
Then I have a big balsa wood glider, and my 3D and powered wing but I have no idea what make any of them are!

I'll get some pictures up tomorrow.

Sounds good, I'll have a mooch around, I'll probably use the 4 chan TX I have already for it prior to forking out for anything better.
