Really hoping someone can help, I am in a position where I will have to work at home over the next few days but the company I work for has software that requires Windows, I only have a Mac Mini connected to a TV. The TV is used by everyone in the house so don’t want to take this just so I can work.

My idea is to setup an install of Windows 10 in Virtual Box environment which I have done, then use Windows via the Microsoft RDP App on my iPad Pro, I just can’t get the Microsoft RDP app to find the Windows install can anyone help? All devices are on the same WiFi Network.

I have attached screenshots of all the relevant settings I have been playing with.

Any help, advice or suggestions would be amazing.

Set the VM's network to use a bridged adapter rather than NAT. That will give the VM an IP on your physical network. You can then connect using a vanilla RDP connection and not have to use the VB Remote Display option.

Sorry forgot to come back and say thank you, it worked amazing!

Next step is to get it to automatically boot in headless mode when I boot the Mac, then tweak Windows 10 and switch off as many effects and animations as possible to make it a little faster.

First of all can you help me with a few things? What is the VPN software you are using? Or are you logging into a windows environment over remote desktop services (a website) and using remote desktop that way? Remote desktop services can be configured to run on a mac natively as can most VPN services. For example I have quite a few working at home on their personal macs natively just using osx and they are all remoted into windows clients. If you can help use obviously not with too much info we can help a lot better.

Yep, there is this too. Could RDP to another workstation and run from there.

Makes sense to me over some massively convoluted setting up of windows in a virtual box, there is a windows rdp client on the app store, use that and either rds or the client software for the vpn.
