Last month I replaced motherboard cpu & memory and reformatted the HDD to do a clean install of Win 8.1 64 pro. I used the win 8.0 64 pro key I bought from MS as a digital download when Win 8.0 was launched.
Activation failed stating that the key was installed on another machine. I went through the telephone reactivation process and completed the activation successfully.
Last night, 35 days after the activation I got a screen saying that windows needed to be activated because the same key was being used on a different PC - it isn't.
I went through the telephone activation again, confirming that I was a home user & the key was only used on one machine. I was able to reactivate again.
Any idea what's going on?
If it happens again, is there any way of bypassing the automatic activation system and talking to a human at MS to try to find out why?
