Hello all,

I've just replaced my motherboard / cpu / ram and windows xp is failing to boot up properly. Is there anyone that can offer me a few pointers / advice please?

The ram and hdd are being seen fine in bios, and the window cd boots up fine and lets me see the c: drive.

Basicaly do I need to do a fresh install of XP as I've changed so much of the innards? Is it possible to repair the old version or do I install over the top, should I install a whole new version in a new directory, leaving the old one behind?

So many questions, so little brain...

Cheers

Its because you have changed the motherboard. The CPU and RAM wouldnt have made a difference. Its all the chipset drivers and controllers on it that need whole new drivers. You will need to reinstall, might as well just wipe the whole thing clean (Assuming you have ALL your documents backed up!)

I take no responsibility for you not having your documents back up and subsequently wiping these clean.

Ahh... whenever I've upgraded in the past there was a new hdd to go with the motherboard.

The important ones (work, photos, music etc) are all backed up, but I'm loathe to format the hdd and have to reinstall so much software and do all that patching.

Unless someone knows of a quick way to reinstall, including how to back up EQ2 so I don't have to download all the patches since release...?

everytime u change/upgrade the motherboard u will need to do a fresh install of windows.. there isn't a quick way for that...

as for backing up EQ2 u could put the hard drive in another computer then copy the EQ2 folder, but that still may not work because it'll be in reg file and in the system folders

Done this to eq1, eq2 and VG many times, no reg info needed, I move these folders to other PC's / laptops when I get a new one.

Once moved to were ya want, just make shortcuts to the .exe.
