smbclient //WINDOWS_MACHINE_IP_OR_NAME/c$ --user WINDOWS_USER –p

Yes he could, using "put" as opposed to get to transfer Linux data to Windows, its in reverse but effectively the same end result.

He could also have used Windows Services for Unix in collaboration with PCNFS.

He could also have used Samba in full or Ext2Fsd.

There are many ways to do it.
