I can honestly say i have only read one book, without being forced to by school!

That book was one of the Andy McNab books, forgot which one, it was good and i enjoyed it! I know the idea of someone to only really ever read one book is probably quite appalling to some people, so I've decided to make that 2 tonight!

I watched the film 'Requiem for a Dream' on DVD (top notch film directed by the legend Aronofsky for those interested) and on credits it said it was based on the book by Hubert Selby Jr, so i popped online and requested it from my local libraries

I really want to read it, so i can say I've read more than one book and in case the film missed anything! I imagine im going to get bored (not necessarily though), so is reading while listening to music a stupid idea?
 
I hate reading. I've read two books, The Hobbit and the Iron Man. Every other book I've attempted to read I manage the first paragraph then give up. I much prefer a good movie :p
 
Lol, depends on whether you'll actually be listening or just have it there as background music. If you do the former, you'll have difficulty concentrating as well as you might be able to.

Could I also suggest that the second book you ever read (that you're not forced to) isn't one you've already seen the film of. Reading a book that you've seen the film of locks you in to imagining the characters as played by the actors in the film and makes the whole thing both predictable and feel like it's dawdling along. Always read the book then see the film.

If I could suggest another book to read - unless you've seen the film of it already - could I suggest High Fidelity by Nick Hornby (bad film, amazing book (and yes I did read the book then see the film[but no, I'm not Angus Higgins])).

I always listen to music when reading, I get bored easily so I go for plenty of action and story lines that are easy to follow.
 
Ive preobably read around a thousand books. Used to get 16 out of the library every 3 weeks. Love my books. I read at work on nightshifts, and have roughly 200+ books myself, most of which i have read numerous times.
 
I've read the LOTR books and the Hobbit, along with about 6 Stephen King books and a couple of other random ones. So not a big reader really and often think I'm missing out on something.

I think our generation has been swamped with ways to easily get other media like TV and film, so we've kinda pushed books to the side.

That being said though, I'm currently reading a few (American Psycho and Lunar Park both by Brett Easton Ellis, love American Psycho so thought book would be good), and one called The Apprentice by Gordan Houghton, I find it quite relaxing to sit down in a quiet room with a book, sitting down to watch a TV episode/film can be a little too intense I find sometimes!
 
I can't have anything else going on when I'm reading, so I usually just read for an hour or 2 when I go to bed. On average I read a book a week, although if it's really good I often finish in just a night or 2.

At the moment I'm into a lot of crime / thriller books although I love fantasy as well. I do admit I go through phases though as if I get really busy I get too tired to read at night. :)
 
I think you lot are just reading the wrong books ;)

Music isn't too bad whilst reading, but I wouldn't recommend having it too loud as it'll be a distraction.

I'm currently reading The Blind Watchmaker but progress is slow due to it being an informative book rather than easy reading and the constant battle with uni work.
 
Ah, perfect timing with a "book" thread..

I've decided I wanna start reading again (last book was a couple of years ago - Michael Crichton's State of Fear)..

I looked around at a list of Tom Clancy books (as his Rainbow Six book was awesome, and so are games based on them!), and have come to the conclusion to get his four Splinter Cell books (forth one coming out end of next week). edit: fourth out on 6th Nov.

I can't read with music in my ears. Um.. I've been reading these forums with music pumping through the headphones quite loud, so hmm.. I mean, [to me] it's harder to read fictional books and concentrate/enjoy it as much as without music :).

Reading is sooo enjoyable when you find authors you enjoy, why not enjoy them with your favourite music?

I'd say it'd be stupid idea not to :p, if you feel like it, do it!
