Hi all,

I am treating myself for my 30th to a new pc, I only need the base unit as I have everything els I need and will be running on a 1080p 144hz monitor.

I would like a new ryzen chip if possible with ram to suit, the pc will be only used for gaming and wouldn't need any more than 1tb of storage, even that may be overkill for my needs but I would like fast storage for game loading times.

Also I'm new to pc building so bare with me.

Budget it 1000-1200

Cheers guys.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £1,172.04 (includes shipping: £13.20)

Rtx 2060 super maybe a bit overkill . Rx5700 or standard 6GB RTX 2060 would cut the cost a little

Thanks for the input! As for it being overkill I don't mind too much as I would rather have to upgrade later rather than sooner to be honest, and sorry I also forgot to mention I won't need windows.

Also with having the 144hz monitor already I would like to have 144fps and over whenever possible

Stick with the 2060 Super.. it's 2070 performance which will give you 144fps !

If you've got the extra cash 2070 super will last longer.
Either way the above will rock!

Intel is technically better at 1080p due to core speed .

Pushing max speed ! Set MCE one for 4.8ghz all core boost

One of the reasons I was looking more towards ryzen was because of future upgrades, I heard they are going to keep the same socket for a few years so if an upgrade is likely within that time then I won't have to pay out for another motherboard also.

Do you think I would be best sticking to the 2060 super and maybe getting a slightly better cpu with the money saved or is there nothing better I could get with the money saved?

Sorry I'm new to building pc's so I'm not acting dumb on purpose

as you can see, not much difference between Ryzen 3600 to 3800x as there would be going to say going intel 9700k from the 3600.

why i dont really push 3600x

if you plan to upgrade in future, then stick to 6 core as means you'll be upgrading to more cores in the future rather then a few more .

would push bigger SSD personally.

and indeed, if you have a budget - you dont need to spend it all :) Maybe finding a case better suited to your visual tastes etc
technically you dont need an aftermarket cooler with Ryzen 3600 but it would run cooler, hopefully maintain higher boost speed and sound quieter - whilst looking nicer !

and dont worry, perfectly sound questions .

as for upgrading, AM4 was dead when DDR5 launch was announced. as we have seen with AMD Pushing PCIe 4.0 before it was even needed for comsumers - they did anyways purely from an offshoot of server market ! gain a lead over Intel and NVidia!
they will most likely adapt DD5 with Zen 4 in 2021 which again would benefit ryzen performance and hope to dominate intel in the server market more b allowing faster and larger density ram sticks !
personally hoping Zen 3 will have 10 cores per die over currenr Zen2's 8 , and that 7nm EUV will allow faster speeds next year over current 7nm non EUV this year.
intels new CPUs will be on a new chipset - they have always done a 2 year cycle on socket and looks like AMD is 4/5 years

Yea I think I will be going amd personally, I no Intel is going to be a little better for gaming but as I said I have more chance of upgrading in the future without the need of another motherboard, plus I like what amd are doing lately shaking up the market and I always like to support the little guy when I can because the more support they get eventually the better things will get for the consumer in terms of price and performance when two company's compete for the number 1 spot.

Thanks for all the input guys it's helped me out a lot.

good to support the underdog.. well they arent an underdog anymore ! and performance per pound is GREAT!

least we are finally able to quote intel and amd together on fighting terms. not just intel as being super powerful vs amd as being super cheap ! both are stunning powerful chips . well done AMD and intel.. best pull the big guns out now! no sitting on fingers
