ok, im pretty sure i have settled for theCoolmaster HAF 912 Plus Case and just need a cooler to go with it. dont want to spend more than £30 on it.
temps are ok when running 3.8GHz DC but shoot up when i unlock to tri-core. im looking at maybe :
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler (had one on my old i7 and was pretty good)
Corsair A50 High-Performance CPU Cooler
Akasa AK-CC017V2 Freedom Tower CPU Cooler

the issue i have, is i have a NB HSF right next to the cpu, so not only am i limited due to ram, but i also need something that will clear this too.
any recommendations as i really want to order now so it will be here tomorrow.

do you have the 7 or the 13 model, not a lot of price difference in them.
also, what sort of height clearance do they have, i cant remember but pretty sure mine cleared the ram pretty easily.

I first put the fan on the wrong way as I was tired so the outer rubber "bit" was touching the GPU, now the fan points towards the HDD, heat sink to the rear of my case it's fine. IT IS a large fan, but fits fine. inch gap from that and my gpu, plentiful space behind it, close to my ram but not an issue.

Have a micro mobo

My PSU is at the bottom of my case by the way

ok thanks.
i have a full atx mobo but as you can see, there is limited room :

Might help...

fan dimensions..

Fan Dimensions: 107 x 43.5 x 96 mm mm
Heatsink Dimensions: 104 x 58 x 126.5 mm mm (WxHxD)

well thats the Coolmaster HAF 912 Plus and the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 CPU Cooler ordered for delivery tomorrow. hopfully will be an easy swap. case looks like it has a good selection of holes to do reasonable cable management so hopfully i wont get lazy and will do it properly to allow a decent airflow.
- Front Cooling: 1x 200 mm (19 dB(A), 700 RPM, Red LED) or 2 x 120mm fans (optional)
- Top Cooling: 1x 200 mm or 2 x 120mm fans (optional)
- Rear Cooling: 1x 120 mm (17 dB(A), 1.200 RPM)
- Side Cooling: 1x 140 / 120 mm (Optional)
any recommendations on how to achieve best airflow?
also the cooler, is the fan setup as push or pull? so i know which way to mount it

I have it so the fan points towards front of my case, heatsink to the back so rear case fan draws from the heatsink which I believe is where the air is coming from due to the fan pulling.

You know I could've made this up, but hey my cpu stays at a constant 23c

so the fan on the heatsink is pulling it away from it towards the front of the case and the rear fan is also pulling it away out the back? or have you turned the fan around so its blowing air over the heatsink and your rear fan is sucking it away?
sorry, long day, getting confused.

now i'm getting confused...lol. I believe you can make it so the fan pushes or pulls.

I figured that the fan will pull in air, the heatsink will then have the air extracted from it by my rear case fan.

Better? ;)

lol ok, so you have it :
cold air pulled in from front of the case, pushed over the heatsink and then pulled out the rear by the case fan?

so, if i say let the 200mm front fan pull air in, the rear 120mm fan push out. then add say 2 120mm top fans pushing out and also 1 side fan pulling in. that should concentrate all the cold air onto the gfx card and cpu? so which way would i want the cpu fan blowing?

that's a lot of fans, i'm literally sat here with freezing feet and legs, with only 3 case fans, cpu cooler and gpu lol

lol my pc sits between the tv stand and a set of drawers with monitor and keyboard/mouse on, so with the heat the tv setup generates, there is a lot of hot air around the right hand side and rear of the case. the way i said, im hoping it will suck in the cold air from the front and left of the case and push it all out the back with the rest of the hot air. well thats my theory.
i dont sit near my pc, so air blowing around doesnt affect me :) noise isnt a great issue either, although would be nice if it didnt sound like heathrow at busy time.

although would be nice if it didnt sound like heathrow at busy time.

Har har.

Well i've just realised that my rear fan is actually not push any heat from my pc, think its pulling in from outside. Silly of me considering the Arctic is pushing heat out towards the fan that is pushing? lol

You've got me all confused, you *ss

lol so you are blowing air at the heatsink from both directions? that will surely trap the heat, which considering your temps is not very likley.
out of intrest, did you run it on stock cooler at all? if so what temps did you have then?

i didn't run it on stock cooler at all.

my side fan and rear fan are both pulling air into the case. Oops. How have I not noticed this before? lol

haha so you are pulling in on all fans, so basically you are relying on PSU, GFX card and any holes in the casing to disperse the heat? crazy i tell ya.

EDIT : PSU fan facing down? so that eliminates the psu from dispersing the heat too now. lol
