Readyboost, recommended sticks?

Ok you know readyboost with vista, well are there any particular memory sticks that are recommended or will any stick do?

Also is there a size limit?

Thanks in advance.

Any stick will do just fine. Some manufacturers have already started cashing in by putting "optimised for Vista" etc on their packaging but it's just balony really. As far as Vista is concerned, it doesn't care about throughput as it only reads 8KB chunks at a time anyway. It does however care about seek time, but of course, all flash memory is largely the same here - a few micro seconds compared to 10 milliseconds or so for a typical hard drive.

No size limit.

4GB is size limit at moment, believe 256mb is minimum.

guide here ,

It's a new feature in Vista that allows it to allocate a special type of page file onto a flash memory device and thus take advantage of the <0ms seek time which is so important for a page file.

Don't think any old stick will do ...some ppl have old sticks that won't work like me!!

I went and got a OCZ rally 2 stick 2GB fast read/write works a treat

Since this is the first revision of the feature, we decided to focus on making the single device exceptional, without the difficulties of managing multiple caches. We like the idea, though, and it's under consideration for future versions.
Fantastic!

Can't wait to ram (no pun intended) a 4GB USB stick in every available jack :p

I've got a generic 1GB stick in my system. It's new but its nothing special. Works fine here.

Basically any new stick will do, some old ones wont be fast enough, although for a few quid more a high speed one might work better.

Wrong, it said mine wasn't fast enough.

Shrug, there's no technical reason for them doing it. They just wanted to impose a minimum throughput limit so they can make bucks by having folks like Corsair join the 'Certified for Vista' logo programme :p :)

Although i notice the Corsair Readyboost drives and the equivalent sized Corsair 'normal' drives are the same price which was a pleasant surprise, i was fully expecting them to whack a few token quid on there for the Vista marked ones and they didnt (so i bought a 1 gigger as they're so cheap these days).

Hi there

I got one of the 1GB TurboCache Readyboost pens today as well.
Dunno if its any benefit to my system but for the small amount of money I thought why not. :)
