ReadyBoost

Most I've tried seem to work, 'Readyboot Ready' or not.
Just one older 256MB one I have which Vista claims is not up to the job, does not work with my 2nd Gen iPod Nano either, half expected it to :(

The memory stick controller needs to optimise random access over sequential access.

Most memory sticks are highly optimised for sequential access, such as iPods, which make them rubbish at being a random access page file store.

the readyboot will work with any USB2 pen drives.. it will not work with USB1 pen drive...

note: some USB2 pen drives are faster then others..

Plug it in & find out.
Vista will tell you.

I would, but I don't have Vista or the stick yet :p

Look it up on the USB pens manufacture website.

I think its mainly the newer ones which work.

Will do :). Thanks.

I'm guessing all USB 2 pen sticks will work with ReadyBoost, but as NathanE says: they'd need to be optimized for random access rather than sequential for the best performance.

I just found a 1GB Corsair Turbo Flash USB2 'Designed for Windows Vista Ready Boost' for £14. A bit expensive for a 1GB though.

corsair voyger drives work

Cool, thanks :)

& they look indestructible... and waterproof!

According to this page: http://www.corsairmemory.com/corsair/flash_memory.html#fv it's only the GT versions that are ReadyBoost compatible.

No harm in going for a £34 4GB Corsair GT :)

The Flash Voyager has been shown laundered, baked, frozen, boiled, dropped, and even run over by a SUV in many third party reviews. After all the punishment it receives, the drive continues to work.

Nice to know I can drop it in a pot of boiling water by mistake or leave it in the freezer by accident & it'll still work :D

it is picky, i plugged my fujifilm s9500 camera in to download the pics off the cf card, readyboost said nope not fast enough, also had a crap old memory stick and it said ok so its a bit of a lottery really.

When you plug a USB drive in does Vista look at it and then give an option for ReadyBoost (e.g. "Enable ReadyBoost" in the autoplay menu or something)?

not really mate, you go into computer and right click the drive and readyboost is an option tab.

Is there a noticeable performance gain with ready boost, or is it just a naff gimmik?

Also interested in this. Thinking of moving to Vista but only have 1Gb of memory so I reckon either 2Gb or 4Gb Corsair Voyager GT should do the trick to save upgrading to pricey DDR1 :p That's pending the results of this question...

BeatMaster :D
