ReadyBoost

54.4MB/sec average read... that looks like the typical speed of any single drive really.

Do you believe us now? :p

That could be because the controller isn't built into the south bridge or is attached to the PCI bus. Or it could be driver related.

Either way, 55MB/sec is no where near the speed you would get from a properly configured RAID 0 setup.

just stop and think about it please. a single drive cannot perform anything like a raid setup. even my sata drive with a 4 year old mobo gives better results than yours. your burst speed is higher but that's meaningless. :)

but i don't think you guys are getting what im saying..

for me setting it to raid it runs abit faster then ide sata... only that..

i wasn't saying its faster then having 2 hdds in raid-0 mode....

i have just got myself a crucial gizmo jr 4gb flashdrive, for readyboost.
cant believe how small and thin it is(12.4 mm (w) by 34.3 mm (l) by 2.2mm (t)).
using it for my laptop, which has 2gig ram

is 96MB/sec about right for 2hdds in raid0 mode? and no point using readyboot when using 2hdds in raid0 mode?

Looks about right, although a bit spikey...

RAID0 doesn't help seek time too much so yes ReadyBoost is still worth it.

The Gizmo Jr is tempting, it's so small!

But I'd rather performance over size... what's faster? The Corsair red rubbery Voyager GT or the Crucial Gizmo Jr ?

Thanks,
Craig.

it only arrived today so haven't really had a chance too see, but i have tested a few programs and they are opening faster

After a week of testing would you say the benefits are worth it?

Considering a Voyager GT 2Gb to go in my machine with 1Gb DDR memory :o

BeatMaster :D

Didnt want to start a new thread as its for the same thing, but is it possible to use a memory card instead of a thumb drive for ready boost?

I am considering a laptop and seeing as they have built in card readers I would just get a memory card instead of using a USB drive.

I'm still not sure what to think of ReadyBoost.

One the one hand, it's cheaper than RAM (especially if you are running high speed memory). However, it's also a lot slower.

Personally I don't think I would actually go out and buy a flash memory device for RB when building a PC. It's basically a substitute for not having enough RAM in the first place.

I can see it being useful for people with less than 2gig RAM who can't easily upgrade their memory cheaply though (e.g. the guy with 1gig DDR above).

I suppose in the long run I might use it though just sticking a random pen drive in rather than actually going out and buying one specifically for it.

I believe you can do that, yes. You'd just have to ensure the card is fast enough for Vista to use it as a ReadyBoost device.
