Hey guys i use newsleecher along with a newshosting.com account for my newsgroup access, ever since i rebuilt my system, i'm getting a major drop in my speeds and was unsure of whats going on, i'm on a 10mb NTL/Virgin Media line..

Before: 1-1.4mb/sec

Now: 30-70kb.sec

I'm not sure if i've missed any changed, windows firewall has it enabled for access, avast has nttp set to not scan, and unlimited.newshosting.com:119 ignored.

I really don't remember any other tweaks i had to make in the past to get this working right, can anyone shed some light on the subject? (Using XP)

Thanks!

I had the same problem with the latest beta for some wierd reason, I just went back to 3.8 and it's working perfectly with a constant 850kbps(8mb adsl max)

How many connections have you got NL set to? My ISP has started throttling Usenet access now so I've got to set it to 60 connections, I'm on an 8mb line.

could it be your isp decided to throttle port 119?

when I had problems newshosting gave me these ports to try instead.

7000, 8000, or 9000, give those a go and see if its still crawling along?

Woo! just changed port to 7000 and am upto 450 now, not as good as its been, but better, thanks mate! :D

In reference to the other posts, i'm using NL 3.8, the strange thing is although it assumed Dick Pickle (Sorry, Richard Branson ;)) and his NTL capturing ppl must have throttled back on 119 for this to ocurr, it also seems that when i tried newsbin5, that worked fine, very strange!

I currently have it set to only 8 connections, i thought i heard somewhere that it was only possible to have 8 with newshosting.com? if not, i'll go add 8 more! :D

The max connections I've ever seen was 20, I'm using 20 with newsdemon and I think giganews also offers 20 connections with SSL encryption but it's a little bit expensive.

Ah ok, well, i left newshosting with 10 connections, was getting about 760kb/sec

So just as a query, i cloned the connection, so essentially logged in on the same account twice w/ 10 connections per...low & behold, 1.4mb thankyou! :D
